THE FELONIES
plus support: Rogue! + Skodo Komodo _ Main Venue _ Since forming in 2015, Co.Wicklow Alternative Rock outfit The Felonies, have gone from strength to strength establishing Themselves as one of Ireland’s most exciting live acts. Having gigged extensively throughout 2016 after the release of their Debut EP in November 2015, the band were chosen for the Searchlight Development Deal in September 2016, where the band spent the next five months in live pre-production in The Button Factory, and recording new material in Temple Lane Studios. Now in 2017, with 2 Single’s under Their belt so far, The Felonies look set to cement Their position as one of Ireland’s most exciting up-and-coming bands with their upcoming single release ‘Drunk (3am)’. The Felonies kick off their first Irish tour with Their biggest headline gig to date in Whelans Main Room. Pure M Magazine; “The Felonies are focused on perfecting their music, and it is truly paying off. They will get bigger and bigger and will be another great band coming from Ireland. And more heads will be turning in their direction”. DublinConcerts.ie; “’Impossible, Impractical is’ full of belting indie tunes and pulsing rock anthems…how finely can a band have curated their sound in such a short space of time? Well, The Felonies blow our pre-conceptions out of the water with their brilliant melding of indie rock and hard rock…it’s amazing to see such a young band have such finesse to their sound, it’s powerful and focused, and everything that music should be”. Musician.ie; “The single is brimming with Brit Indie goodness, an addictive bass line and anecdotal lyric “Repetition” and proves why Felonies already have a loyal fan base and caught the ear of the music industry.”TICKETS

5 DOLLAR SHAKES
plus support ^ Upstairs ^ Formed in 2012, 5 Dollar Shakes are a five piece indie pop-rock band from Gorey, Co. Wexford. Their songs are full of the unbridled energy and enthusiasm associated with young men on the verge of entering their 20’s. The music draws on influences from indie, rock, pop, punk and dance, resulting in a powerful, but accessible sound. The band consists of Jack McEvoy (Vocals), Colin Doran (Lead guitar), Caleb Dowdall (Rhythm guitar), Richard Deering (Bass guitar) and Ciaran O’Doherty (Drums). 5DS’ live shows are where their energy really comes to the fore. The dynamic stage presence can’t be ignored, and lead singer Jack’s infectious performance encourages the audience to shed their inhibitions! From playing around Wexford in 2012, they played their first Dublin show at the King Kong Club in 2013. Eventually placing 3rd in the Grand Final at the Village Venue. This lead to gigs at the Workman’s Club and Sweeney`s. In late 2013, they were booked to play at the opening ceremony of the BT Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS, to an audience of 2500 people. Throughout the following year, the band progressed in the Dublin scene through playing gigs at Whelan`s and various UCD and Trinity College society balls. In 2014, the band won two major unsigned music competitions, establishing themselves as one of Ireland’s top unsigned acts. First, winning the “Unsigned Sessions” competition, the band secured a main stage set at Sea Sessions 2015, following this success by then winning the “Access All Areas” competition, earning a main stage set at the Rose of Tralee Festival 2015. In December 2014 the band`s debut EP “Back to the Start Again” was released as a free download. It has been well received and mirrors the energy of the 5DS live performance. Following the successful Summer they had in 2014, had an even bigger Summer in 2015. They made their Festival Main Stage debut at their return to the Sea Sessions Music Festival. There, they shared the same stage as acts such as: The Academic, Le Galexie, The Riptide Movement & Seasick Steve. This was followed by a trip to Sonas Studios in Killarney to record their Second EP, Come and See Enough to Stay. Next came an extremely successful and well-received return to the Rose of Tralee, supporting The Geddes, Hudson Taylor and The Riptide Movement. Continuing to play all kinds of gigs and venues since, the band has been constantly writing and perfecting their sound, with plenty of exciting, catchy, and on occasion morose tunes. 5 Dollar Shakes have released two EP’s so far, Back to the Start Again (December 2014) & Come and See Enough to Stay (May 2016) along with a number of music videos, and have found the market to be incredibly saturated. Therefore, with the release of these new songs, they have decided to do something different, and have capitalised on a brainwave, and the video making talents of bass player Richard X. Deering. They are coupling the tracks with a story; a 17 minute long short film, entitled Transitions, which includes all 3 songs from the new EP, which will be released over the space of a week after the tracks become available on Spotify/iTunes etc… They’ve decided to do something different and go this route in the marketing of this EP in order to set themselves apart from the hundreds of other acts in similar genres to us that exist in Ireland. While entirely confident in the quality of their music, and the commercial ability of the new songs, with so many acts taking up radio space, they feel this added dimension is necessary in rising above the rest and being noticed by a greater audience.TICKETS

LES FRERES ZEUGMA
_ Main Venue _
An atypical rock band, composed of 6 musicians, interpreting a collection of about thirty original compositions built around multiple influences. The recipe of Les Frères Zeugma is: 6 doses of rock n ‘roll, 3 spoons of funk, 100g of swing. Add 5 measures of klezmer, 2 slices of afrobeat and a zest of psychedelism. Heat the whole on stage and serve boiling hot!
Born in Paris in 2007 and now counting nearly 200 concerts, Les Frères Zeugma are ready to play everywhere. A rock band without borders, their music could be heard from the Moroccan desert to the biggest Parisian theaters, passing by the roads of France and Europe.
The Zeugma Brothers always leave behind an audience conquered by the originality of the show. A concert of Les Frères Zeugma is also circus-burlesque staging. Crazy comedians, giant puppets, fireworks, live projections, freaky creatures parade, nothing stops the Zeugma Brothers!

NO ENCORE #070 | We Talkin’ U2 To You
— — — — — Following on from a spectacular sold-out live debut in March, Ireland’s pre-eminent music podcast NO ENCORE will once again take to the stage at Whelan’s on Thursday September 28. The event takes place as part of the first ever Dublin Podcast Festival, presented by HeadStuff and Aiken Promotions, and will see hosts Dave Hanratty, Colm O’Regan and Craig Fitzpatrick recording an episode live from one of the capital’s most storied venues. They won’t be alone, either, with three of the country’s most exciting live acts for company – sets from instrumental behemoths Overhead, The Albatross, West-coast wunderkind Daithí and electronic luminary Elaine Mai are also part of what’s guaranteed to be another extraordinary night of entertainment. It’s another milestone in an already impressive year, which has seen the podcast go from strength to strength in their second season. As well as wowing a capacity Workman’s Club crowd to bring up the half-century, the show has welcomed lively interviewees including Hamilton Leithauser, Girl Band and Ho99o9 – and continued to further its status as an incisive, irreverent and unmissable jaunt through the world of music. There will be no holds barred. There will be no apologies. And there will be NO ENCORE LIVE. — — — — — WHAT THEY’VE SAID ABOUT NO ENCORE “NO ENCORE has steadily built a reputation as appointment listening for music fans across the country.” – Hot Press “Makes you feel like you are surrounded by pals around a table discussing one of life’s greatest pleasures.” – State Magazine “If you haven’t already listened to the podcast, then you really should, because it’s pretty brill.”– Lovin’ DublinTICKETS

Trad geeks may recognise ‘Call The Dancers’ as a battle cry issued on ‘I gCnoc na Graí / In Knocknaree’ a live album by Tony McMahon and Noel Hill from 1985 that captures the spirit and passion we humbly hope to take a stab at generating. Call The Dancers is where Rónan Ó Snodaigh and Eoin Dillon and friends will share the tunes they love. They’ll be sharing them with each other and with the dancers, drinkers and groovers who cross Whelans threshold each Tuesday for the next three months. This will be blistering. It will ooze the excitement of our glorious music and bring it to the world with the force it deserves. Call The Dancers is for and by people who adore trad and can’t get enough of it.
