TRANSATLANTIC FURY

featuring

NICK REVELL LEE CAMP

“We are eccentric revolutionaries. We want liberty, equality and the finest whisky available to humanity, and we want them now”

Rising star of American comedy Lee Camp (“Gets the crowd roaring!” –Rolling Stone) and veteran British stand-up Nick Revell (“fiercely funny…insightful, incandescent.” The Herald) will be touring the UK together in May 2013.

Lee Camp:

“For those comedy fans still in mourning for Bill Hicks 18 years on, you’ll find plenty to enjoy in the work of DC-born stand-up Lee Camp. Like Hicks, Camp has a visceral disregard for big business and big politics, and speaks his mind on everything from abortion rights to the evils of the modern media. However, where Hicks was more of a commentator who stayed above the fray, Camp is much closer to British activist-comics like Mark Thomas, a real-life serial protester.” –The Guardian

“Like Jon Stewart from the Daily Show but with sharper teeth.” –The Herald

“When my father died, I became concerned about who was going to carry the torch… and Lee Camp blew me away. I thought ‘That’s like my dad.’ ” —Kelly Carlin (George Carlin’s daughter)

“We had to physically remove him from the building.” — Anchor on Fox News (following Camp’s appearance where he called the network a “parade of propaganda”)

“Very funny.” –General Wesley Clark (former NATO Supreme Allied Commander)

“Lee Camp is an integral part of a longstanding satirical tradition. He has the rare ability to make you laugh and think simultaneously.” –Paul Krassner

Nick Revell:

“Revell makes you laugh and think; a rare and cherishable combination these days” The Scotsman

“Master satirist…superb comic.” Time Out

“One of the most creative and incisive comics on the circuit – the wonderful Nick Revell…A brilliant observer of contemporary idiocies….a shrewd commentator on society and the political scene….Having begun his career not long after alternative comedy’s equivalent of the year dot….you’d forgive Nick Revell if these days he chose to put his feet up of an evening. Instead, he maintains a gigging schedule that would shatter many fresher-faced acts…While he’s got access to a vein of intoxicating anger, he’s also a comedian who can transmit a huge amount of real human warmth. Expect to be seduced by a genuine craftsman”. Guardian

“Scalpel-sharp satirist” – Evening Standard

Media Credits include

Lee Camp – Just For Laughs Montreal 2006, 2009, Political Animal and News Quiz America (BBC), The Green Room with Paul Provenza (Showtime), Fresh Debate 08 – (Comedy Central); Newsnight – (made Paxman laugh in the interview), panelist, No Pressure to be Funny (“one of the best topical podcasts out there” – Huffington Post.)

FUCKED UP

Fucked Up’s cancellation statement:

“As I write this I have now been vomiting out of both ends for about 15 hours and because of this we are going to have to cancel our Dublin show tonight.

I feel so fucking bad about doing this and please know that we only did this because I don’t think I can make it work tonight.

We talked about various scenarios where other members would sing or ask people in the crowd to sing a few songs and I would sit and wait to do some but it all seemed wrong.

This is only the second time we have cancelled a show and feel horrible doing it.

I loved the one and only visit to Dublin we made and going back was to be a tour high point for all of us.

I swear we will come back and I swear even if I have to wear a vomit catcher and a diaper I will play. Fuck stomach bugs.

I feel so bad for letting you and everyone in Fucked up down.

I am so so so so Sorry

CHELSEA LIGHT MOVING

IL SOGNO DEL MARINAIO

feat. MIKE WATT (Minutemen / Stooges)

CHELSEA LIGHT MOVING is the current group led by Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore. He is the songwriter and plays over-amped hyper electric guitar and sings with raw-glam-destructo vocals. The band is a four piece featuring Samara Lubelski, who has played violin with TM on his last two solo LPs (Demolished Thoughts and Trees Outside The Academy) and with CHELSEA LIGHT MOVING plays deep psyche pop metal bass guitar. Keith Wood, who records under the aegis Hush Arbors, plays electric guitar with a pick forged from angel wing and John Moloney, aka “Pegasus”, approaches the drums like an asteroid hurtling toward Earth. The first CD self-titled was recorded in two spurious sessions with engineer Justin Pizzoferrato in Sone Lab, a killer studio in Easthampton MASSACHUSETTS. The band is ready to detonate any birthday party, wedding or hullaboo in any country, planet or stratosphere that doesn’t support right wing extremist NRA sucking bozo-ology

IL SOGNO DEL MARINAIO

Il Sogno del Marinaio is the latest musical venture from ex-Minutemen bassist, Mike Watt. A highly respected figure in contemporary music and the embodiment of the D.I.Y punk spirit, Watt is regarded as being one of the most original and influential bassists of all time. His four-decade spanning career has seen him create some of the most critically acclaimed, genre-defying music of recent times while always managing to be both exciting and unique.

It was in 2005 that Watt was first introduced to guitarist Stefano Pilia, a renowned musician at the forefront of the Italian avant-garde music scene, while he was touring Italy. Pilia has created some of the most sonically experimental and intriguing music that has led him to work with artists as diverse as David Grubbs and Phill Niblock. The two remained friends and in 2009, together with drummer Andrea Belfi – a multitalented drummer who gained international interest from his 2006 project Between Neck & Stomach – the trio set out to make music that was both organic and original.

The band will be playing material from “la busta gialla”, which is set to be released in January 2013 via Clenched Wrench records. Mike says of the forming of the band: ‘I was invited to join them in playing six shows in Italy during the late fall of 2009. We needed material for these shows and I thought that if we were going to come together to do that then why not also record the stuff for an album? The resulting sound is the three of us coming from different places and joining together to make a sound singular to the dynamic between us’

On February 17th, while heading into town from Dalkey, Erin Kenny got off the DART at Tara St. Station and slipped into the path of the departing train. Throughout that night and the following days she fought for her life in intensive care in St. James Hospital. Miraculously she survived though she had numerous internal injuries, broken bones and lost her right leg.

As close friends of Erin’s, artists Danny O’Reilly, Mary Black and Róisín O, have decided to put on a gig to raise money for Erin’s cause. As a single Mam, Erin will have to face many physical and financial difficulties in the months and years to come and all proceeds will go to helping her and her daughter Lily through this difficult time.

With the profits our main aim is to raise enough money to buy Erin a specially adapted car to give her and Lily some independence and help them get back to a normal life.

PURLING HISS

[DRAG CITY]

Wild Rocket

It takes balls to let Purling Hiss get in your face- their records are a half-corroded, screaming roar of high-end guitars crushed together, obliterating vocals and drums with their singular assault. Well, if you’ve got balls, get ready to swing ‘em! With Water On Mars, Purling Hiss have broken out of the basement, run through the bedroom and are now loose, out in the streets, blasting one of the great guitar albums in the past couple minutes. Yes, Water On Mars, from the swirling sound of Purling Hiss – Drag City’s gonna let you have it, come March 19th, 2013!

Water On Mars is Purling Hiss’s first recording outside the fuzzy confines of Mike Polizze’s inner rock utopia, where the first three albums and EP were constructed in solitude with a home-recording setup. Over the past couple years, Polizze’s been working with a band and fine-tuning new songwriting ideas while playing shows all over the place. Now there is a center to the Hiss maelstrom, with Polizze’s guitars slugging, sizzling and spiraling their way around the rhythm throb, singing disaffected in shifts both aggro and slack (and around to the back) through the course of a song, with production highlighting the schiz by buffing the raw power into a streamlined blast. If that doesn’t rattle your caveman brain, nothing will! Purling Hiss have a deeply satisfying way of drawing from the red, white and blue wells of 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s rock to inform their own sound, giving things a retro ring while doing what they do in the Philadelphia of today – and no other time could apply, really. So bring your neanderthal face out to space, grab a glass, and prepare for a pour from Water On Mars, Purling Hiss’ first banger for Drag City, out in March!

Wild Rocket Some time in the distant future there was a shift in the magnetic field around a star in the system of Sirius which lead to an influx of cerebral radiation bathing the Earth of the present. Our planet is now drenched in the collective consciousness of a trillion minds reaching forward from the aeons past and back from future aeons ahead all to one period, in all dimensions, with one voice. That voice has been interpreted by shamans and physicists alike, each interpretation different-each correct. Wild Rocket interpret this voice and translate the message into rock, both physical and metaphorical. When Wild Rocket began to interpret the message is irrelevant.Time is irrelevant. A cosmic trigger has been pulled. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnvvasMIO6I

Don Vito –

Don Vito are a Leipzig three-piece that bash out playful and naive yet metallic and abrasive noise-rock. It sounds like the soundtrack to a cartoon children’s disco in a steel factory. The band’s description of their music “hyper kinetic instrumental noise tohubohu” couldn’t be any more accurate. The moment Don Vito let a bit of chaos out of the sack all appendages within hearing distance begin to fidget hysterically. It is like being hit with the spray from a machine gun. Welcome the apocalypse of rock smiling at you from three lunatics who appear to thrash at their instruments more than to play them. But somehow they never loose continuity in this chaos of interwoven high speed-grooves. Don Vito does not need to follow the rules; the rules have learned to follow Don Vito. Remarkably, they are free from genre and categorization. They have delightfully blended post-puberty carelessness with just a touch of self-irony.

From now on, you will no longer have to think of that brainless wanker from Jackass when you hear the name Don Vito, but rather of that kick-ass band from the bowels of Germany.

Turning Down Sex –

Turning Down Sex is an instrumental trio from Dublin. Begun as an attempt by three friends to make interesting instrumental music, this pursuit has led them toward a bizarre and unique musical style. In the few years since these early days, Turning Down Sex has played with many of Ireland’s great hard and loud bigwigs including Ten Past Seven, BATS and No Spill Blood. They play regularly in Dublin and around the country, and are known for their intense performances and sweaty, sweaty hands. Their music is fast, loud and erratic, pumping out a heady mix of genres such as math-rock, hardcore and ‘Alternative & Punk’. The resulting sound is a musical hunter-gatherer of sorts, running around the ears of the audience as if they were primeval caves, stuffing them with nutritious berries of dissonance, and skinning flesh from the burst carcasses of harmonically erratic riff-beasts.

KINKY FRIEDMAN

[Bi-Polar World Tour]

plus special guests

Yes, the Kinkster is going global again in 2013.  Starting in mid-March, Kinky will be visiting the UK, Scandinavia, Holland, Belgium and all points European including a one night-only show for Whelan’s, Dublin 28th April 2013 before heading straight down under for a full tour of Australia and New Zealand.  And why, you say, has the Jewish Troubadour (and governor of the heart of Texas) bitten off such a sizable chunk of the planet?

It’s because he’s both energized and excited about all things Kinky, one of the most exciting being his new book written with Willie Nelson, ‘Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I’m Gone.’  Kinky’s extensive forward and full-on collaboration with Willie has perked the ears of the publishing world, and the book promises to be one of the top sellers of the fall and winter seasons.

And did we mention Kinky Friedman’s Man In Black Tequila, one of the hottest new potent potables on the market today?  US distributorships are spreading like wildfire, with world domination of the tequila markets looms large.

But the BiPolar World Tour is nothing if not a fact-finding mission, as Kinky calculates world political views, particularly toward the Kinkster, himself.  For Kinky is considering a second run for Texas governor.  After stunning international gaffes by hi-powered US politicos such as Mitt Romney and (current Texas governor) Rick Perry, the Kinkster will bring a remarkably fresh view of American politics with him.  Pollsters and the Kinky-ites believe he can win this time.  Strong international cred will certainly help.

“The best band in the world!” Danny Baker

The Silver Seas’ Daniel Tashian and Jason Lehning were raised deep within the Nashville music scene. Tashian’s dad Barry was lead singer of the Boston-based, mid-sixties cult combo The Remains and subsequently toured with Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band. Lehning’s dad Kyle is a well-respected country music producer and the former president of Asylum Records Nashville. While the young Lehning apprenticed behind the boards, Tashian was developing into a formidable singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

Tashian, has a knack for creating instantly memorable melodies to pair with often plaintive lyrics, though he’s no show-off; his craftsmanship seems effortless, as if he just dashed off these sneakily addictive numbers in his spare time. Grammy-winning producer, arranger and keyboardist Jason Lehning doesn’t polish these songs to perfection because they sound gorgeous in nearly naked form.

“We’re a good team,” says Lehning. “We bring to each other what the other one doesn’t have. Daniel’s an incredibly spontaneous person and I’m an incredibly pragmatic person. When we work together, we get to be ourselves in a really good way. That makes a nice balance and it’s really enjoyable for me.”
