QUATRE CHEMINS is the new album of acclaimed Australian Sydney-born songbird Melanie Horsnell. The recordings glow with a live acoustic stripped-back sound and are intermingled with Melanie’s quintessential starry-eyed voice, lyrics to die for and a delicate but timeless presence, which has made her so adored on the scene.
Melanie Horsnell’s critically acclaimed album The Cloud Appreciation Society was long-listed for the 2013 Australian Music Prize and she was nominated for an APRA award in 2011.
She has toured with Jason Mraz, The Frames, Bernard Fanning, Lou Rhodes, Slaid Cleaves and Sarah Blasko among others, as well as touring extensively on her own in Australia and Europe.
Melanie takes her two young daughters, Gypsy Django and Harmony Celeste, with her on tour. She has toured and recorded solo and with numerous band line ups, including with the Saints drummer Iain Shedden , drummer/ producer Josh Schuberth and Producer/Songwriter Brian Campeau.
Melanie will be launching her new album at Whelans’s Dublin Sunday 12th April. Don’t miss out on a magical evening of whispery laments, haunting cities and lonely souls sketched out by the signature feathery voice of Melanie Horsnell.
Melanie Horsnells new album QUATRE CHEMINS is a collection of songs recorded at Studio des Quatre Chemins, Paris 23rd January 2015 after a couple of weeks of spontaneously meeting musicians at venues like the gorgeous Coolin and Paris Open Mics, in tiny bars busking afterwards annoying barmen who wanted to go home but pleading tired sozzled customers, and on street corners in the silly dark hours of dawn in a Paris just broken, while roaming the streets, stopping to make music wherever we were, shouting philosophies and singing to whomever would listen… Featuring Parisian / Irish musicians – Laurent Delahaye (Irish Flute, Piano, Bodhran), Moira Montier (Double Bass), Paddy Sherlock (Vocals, Trombone. Guitar), Melissa Cox (Violin), Stuart Mudie (Spoken Word) and Lachlan Doley (Piano on love’s gonna come to you)
Recorded, Mixed and Mastered by Michel Sikiotakis at Studio des Quatre Chemins, Paris.
Mastered by Jonothan Holmes and Cover Painting by Linda McCluskey.

RACKHOUSE PILFER are a fiery & exciting 6-piece Irish-Americana Folk Band treading the water between Americana, Bluegrass, Irish-Folk, Alt-Country & Rock.
“Stellar Roots Outfit, Superb original songs and a brilliant shit-kicking live band. Rollicking tunes guaranteed to have toes tapping and hearts pumping within seconds of exposure. It’s all brilliantly executed and deftly performed with an authenticity that wouldn’t be out of place on the stage of the ‘Grand Ole Opry’.” – Hot Press
“Beer Flinging Banjo Rock” – ShortList, the UK’s leading Mens Magazine
“9/10, Love and Havoc is an excellent, almost flawless album with a set of fantastic songs, great singing and outstanding musicianship” – Maverick (UK #1 Independent Country Music Magazine)
“The 6-piece Pilfers aren’t short of energy and they can play up a storm. This is reflected in the infectious enthusiasm that ripples through their more upbeat songs such as Bright Lights, the slower material, such as Fallen Leaves, is even more impressive.” – The Ticket, The Irish Times
RACKHOUSE PILFER are a fiery & exciting 6-piece Irish band who have been getting rave reviews with their Roots blend of Irish-Americana. After a storming 2014 which included being awarded ‘LIVE BAND OF THE YEAR 2014’ by Hot Press & Jagermeister, recording in Nashville, their first headline tour of Ireland, playing for the Irish President, headlined Europe’s 2 biggest Bluegrass Festivals & loads of great Irish Festival performances RACKHOUSE PILFER are looking forward to an exciting 2015.
The rise of RACKHOUSE PILFER is unstoppable. RACKHOUSE PILFER formed in 2012 by the fireside of McGarrigles bar in Sligo, performing an acoustic set of bluegrass and folk hits from their favorite Americana artists. It wasn’t long before they had to be plugged in to be heard due to their growing popularity and swelling crowds.
They have been enthralling crowds throughout Ireland, Europe and Nashville and were Special Guests to Imelda May at SLIGO LIVE in October where they were a big hit with the audience, so much so that Imelda May invited them to join her for other dates.
2014 saw RACKHOUSE PILFER jet off to Nashville, Tennessee to record their new album of all original tracks entitled “LOVE AND HAVOC” at Alex the Great studios with producer Brad Jones. Brad has worked with a long list of Pop, Rock and Alternative Country artists including Steve Earl, John Prine, John Hiatt, Josh Rouse and Bobby Bare Jr. “LOVE AND HAVOC” features 12 tracks penned by RACKHOUSE PILFER, most of which feature the stomping uproar you might expect from this band, but there are a few twists to the plot. While in Nashville RACKHOUSE PILFER were invited to play at the legendary Station Inn, Nashville’s most famous traditional Bluegrass venue where over the years the best of the best in this genre have graced its stage. They were also asked to perform on the “Viva Nashvegas” live internet stream music show. At the Station Inn they played to a star studded audience including actress Mary Steenburgen, musical legends, cast members and the production team of the TV show ‘Nashville’. They were invited to perform on stage with an all-star band which included Jeff Hanna (lead singer with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Fred Eltringham (Drummer with Sheyl Crow), Mike Bub (Bass player, Steve Earle Band& Del McCoury Band), Legendary Guitarist Guthrie Trapp and many more. This was followed by an invitation on stage as guests at the Grand Ole Opry by Country Music Legend George Hamilton the IV. They were invited to perform with John Carter-Cash, son of Johnny Cash as his special guests together with Raelyn Nelson, Granddaughter of Willie Nelson.
The legendary Harold Bradley features on two of the tracks from their new album ‘LOVE AND HAVOC’. Harold Bradley, now 88 years old is regarded by many as being the most recorded guitar player in history and played on many hit records with Elvis, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Jerry Lee Lewis among others. If you’ve ever listened to any of these artists then you have heard Harold Bradley play. Harold was most famous for inventing a style called ‘Tic Tac’ bass guitar and he joined Rackhouse Pilfer at their recording session in Nashville to play his legendary ‘Tic Tac’ guitar on two of the album tracks “Angela” and “Me and a Polar Bear”. Having Harold Bradley record with the band on these two songs was a real honour for Rackhouse Pilfer.
2014 has been a great year for the boys with many successes, including being awarded ‘Live Band of the Year’ by Hot Press & Jagermeister, recording in Nashville, their first headline tour & loads of great Festival performances. RACKHOUSE PILFER are hungry to build on their success and have many great projects their working on and are looking forward to an exciting 2015.

I have a brand new show that I’m trying out on this tour, it’s based around improv and focused on the fiddle and an analog bass synth. I played the set last week in Limerick and Galway, and it went down really well, I think it’s a serious improvement to the show last year.

For Ron Sexsmith, there’s always a trigger to an album, something that sets in motion the songs he’s writing not exactly as a concept, but certainly a theme or feel. His last album, Forever Endeavour, was born of a health scare while its predecessor Long Player, Late Bloomer was born of disillusionment. 2015’s Carousel One, however, finds Sexsmith in surprising territory for a man often pegged as a downbeat balladeer: he’s actually contented.
“Oh I hope so. Long Player was quite a grumpy record,” Sexsmith says. “It was uptempo musically but lyrically… not so much. I didn’t realize until we were putting the songs together for Carousel One that this would be more outgoing, there’s a lot more humour. I mean, there’s even a smiling picture on the cover, which I’ve never had before. I just hope it doesn’t scare the children.”
Self-deprecating almost to a fault, Ron has been a critical success ever since his self-titled debut back in 1995, winning the admiration of major league songwriters such as Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney along the way. Commercial success, however, has not been so forthcoming for the boy from the blue-collar town of St. Catharines, Ontario.
“Well,” he chuckles, “I guess I was chasing stardom at one point, but then I stopped. To be honest, I think the lack of commercial success has been more annoying to the folks around me. I sometimes get people saying ‘Why aren’t you playing stadiums?’ Well, it’s certainly no mystery to me why I’m not. It’s just not that kind of music. I really didn’t expect the Long Player album to do as well as it did either. Not that it sold like “Lady Gaga” but it did do pretty wellfor me. It even led to us headlining the Royal Albert Hall in 2013. My career was given a much needed kick in the pants which I didn’t see coming. I thought those days were gone for me, but it definitely reawakened a dormant fan base, especially in the UK. Since then, I feel like I’ve got my career back.”
