TRANSATLANTIC FURY feat NICK REVELL & LEE CAMP

Whelanslive.com presents

TRANSATLANTIC FURY

featuring

NICK REVELL LEE CAMP

“We are eccentric revolutionaries. We want liberty, equality and the finest whisky available to humanity, and we want them now”

Rising star of American comedy Lee Camp (“Gets the crowd roaring!” –Rolling Stone) and veteran British stand-up Nick Revell (“fiercely funny…insightful, incandescent.” The Herald) will be touring the UK together in May 2013.

Lee Camp:

“For those comedy fans still in mourning for Bill Hicks 18 years on, you’ll find plenty to enjoy in the work of DC-born stand-up Lee Camp. Like Hicks, Camp has a visceral disregard for big business and big politics, and speaks his mind on everything from abortion rights to the evils of the modern media. However, where Hicks was more of a commentator who stayed above the fray, Camp is much closer to British activist-comics like Mark Thomas, a real-life serial protester.” –The Guardian

“Like Jon Stewart from the Daily Show but with sharper teeth.” –The Herald

“When my father died, I became concerned about who was going to carry the torch… and Lee Camp blew me away. I thought ‘That’s like my dad.’ ” —Kelly Carlin (George Carlin’s daughter)

“We had to physically remove him from the building.” — Anchor on Fox News (following Camp’s appearance where he called the network a “parade of propaganda”)

“Very funny.” –General Wesley Clark (former NATO Supreme Allied Commander)

“Lee Camp is an integral part of a longstanding satirical tradition. He has the rare ability to make you laugh and think simultaneously.” –Paul Krassner

Nick Revell:

“Revell makes you laugh and think; a rare and cherishable combination these days” The Scotsman

“Master satirist…superb comic.” Time Out

“One of the most creative and incisive comics on the circuit – the wonderful Nick Revell…A brilliant observer of contemporary idiocies….a shrewd commentator on society and the political scene….Having begun his career not long after alternative comedy’s equivalent of the year dot….you’d forgive Nick Revell if these days he chose to put his feet up of an evening. Instead, he maintains a gigging schedule that would shatter many fresher-faced acts…While he’s got access to a vein of intoxicating anger, he’s also a comedian who can transmit a huge amount of real human warmth. Expect to be seduced by a genuine craftsman”. Guardian

“Scalpel-sharp satirist” – Evening Standard

Media Credits include

Lee Camp – Just For Laughs Montreal 2006, 2009, Political Animal and News Quiz America (BBC), The Green Room with Paul Provenza (Showtime), Fresh Debate 08 – (Comedy Central); Newsnight – (made Paxman laugh in the interview), panelist, No Pressure to be Funny (“one of the best topical podcasts out there” – Huffington Post.)

Nick Revell – Just For Laughs 1988, 1994; Drop the Dead Donkey; NIck Revell (BBC 1); The Million Pound Radio Show; The Sunday Format, The News Quiz (Radio 4); co-creator of No Pressure to be Funny.

U:Mack presents

FUCKED UP

Fucked Up’s cancellation statement:

“As I write this I have now been vomiting out of both ends for about 15 hours and because of this we are going to have to cancel our Dublin show tonight.

I feel so fucking bad about doing this and please know that we only did this because I don’t think I can make it work tonight.

We talked about various scenarios where other members would sing or ask people in the crowd to sing a few songs and I would sit and wait to do some but it all seemed wrong.

This is only the second time we have cancelled a show and feel horrible doing it.

I loved the one and only visit to Dublin we made and going back was to be a tour high point for all of us.

I swear we will come back and I swear even if I have to wear a vomit catcher and a diaper I will play. Fuck stomach bugs.

I feel so bad for letting you and everyone in Fucked up down.

I am so so so so Sorry

Damian”

JESSIKA KENNEY & EYVIND KANG

Whelanslive & Misery Beat presents

JESSIKA KENNEY & EYVIND KANG

plus special guest BEE MASK
Duo performance from Jessika Kenney – a vocalist known for her haunting timbral sense, as well as her profound interpretation of vocal traditions – and Eyvind Kang – a violist for whom the act of music and learning is a spiritual discipline.
Their LP ‘Aestuarium’ was the second release on Stephen O’Malley’s Ideologic Organ label. A meditation on a psalm of lamentation and the unary tone in the metaphor of salt and fresh water, inspired by Gaelic psalmery, Tibetan notational gestures, and the microtonality of the tetrachord, ‘Aestuarium’ was recorded on the shore of Colvos Passage in 2005 by renowned engineer Mell Dettmer. This was followed up by the equally striking beauty of ‘The Face of The Earth’ in 2012.
“Aestuarium is a work of delicate beauty, as pristine as the surface of a lake at dawn on a summer’s morning.” – TheQuietus
JESSIKA KENNEY
Jessika Kenney is a vocalist and composer based on Vashon Island near Seattle, Washington. Interested in both traditional sources and experimental methods, Kenney has performed and recorded classical Persian vocal repertoire with ney master Ostad Hossein Omoumi, new and traditional Javanese music with Gamelan Pacifica and Gamelan Madu Sari, and the music of contemporary composers such as John Cage, Hans Eisler, Lou Harrison, Eyvind Kang, and Tadao Sawai. Her teachers include the jazz vocalist Jay Clayton at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle and Nyi Supadmi in Central Java, Indonesia, where she studied traditional Javanese vocal music and collaborated on music and theater in experimental settings. EYVIND KANG
Working since 1995, Eyvind Kang can be heard on over 50 records, collaborating with the likes of Sun City Girls, Bill Frisell, Secret Chiefs, Blonde Redhead, Robin Holcomb, Laurie Anderson and many others. In addition to arranging and performing with other musicians, he has released many recordings of original music notably the acclaimed choral piece “Athlantis” (Ipecac) and “The Yelm Sessions” (Tzadik). The Narrow Garden – his latest release due out on Ipecac at the end of January 2012 – is no exception, offering one of his most original and perhaps one of his most playful recordings to date. The music on The Narrow Garden sounds like it was composed for a film soundtrack in the way that Eyvind Kang creates evocative visual spaces with sound. True to form the album is composed of full-bodied pieces of music that evolve from minimal song structure to more grandiose musical statements throughout, ‘Forest Saman’i’ is a great example of this. ‘Pure Nothing’, ‘Mineralia’ and ‘Nobis Natalis’ nod to the choral tones on Athlantis and show definite eastern influences, whilst ‘Usnea’ and ‘The Narrow Garden’ experiment with some truly eerie samples.
His new work of ensemble pieces ‘Visible Breath’ will be the fourth release on Ideologic Organ. BEE MASK “Bee Mask produces medium specific, high-caliber synthesized compositions with mind-altering intent beyond the scope of what one might “check out” to while having their tarot cards read.” – Altered Zones
Bee Mask—Clevland USA’s Chris Madak—announces his first appearance on Australian shores this June, covering dates in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.
Over the past couple of years, Bee Mask has emerged from the DIY underground via an esoteric collection of cassette and LP editions, each of which offers a profound and personal sonic world: a world littered with pulsing waves, control voltage emissions and haunting melodic phrases that echo in the mind like forgotten dreams. Developing a range of hand-made electronic devices, Bee Mask has been able to create a sound that is entirely his own. It’s through instruments that he has been able to grow such an otherworldly sound – an audio vision of a possible future, or a parallel universe in which the very nature of sound, space and time is bent, re-arranged and re-composed with utterly absorbing results.

CHELSEA LIGHT MOVING feat. THURSTON MOORE

CHELSEA LIGHT MOVING

feat. THURSTON MOORE (Sonic Youth)

plus guests

IL SOGNO DEL MARINAIO

feat. MIKE WATT (Minutemen / Stooges)

CHELSEA LIGHT MOVING is the current group led by Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore. He is the songwriter and plays over-amped hyper electric guitar and sings with raw-glam-destructo vocals. The band is a four piece featuring Samara Lubelski, who has played violin with TM on his last two solo LPs (Demolished Thoughts and Trees Outside The Academy) and with CHELSEA LIGHT MOVING plays deep psyche pop metal bass guitar. Keith Wood, who records under the aegis Hush Arbors, plays electric guitar with a pick forged from angel wing and John Moloney, aka “Pegasus”, approaches the drums like an asteroid hurtling toward Earth. The first CD self-titled was recorded in two spurious sessions with engineer Justin Pizzoferrato in Sone Lab, a killer studio in Easthampton MASSACHUSETTS. The band is ready to detonate any birthday party, wedding or hullaboo in any country, planet or stratosphere that doesn’t support right wing extremist NRA sucking bozo-ology

———

IL SOGNO DEL MARINAIO

Il Sogno del Marinaio is the latest musical venture from ex-Minutemen bassist, Mike Watt. A highly respected figure in contemporary music and the embodiment of the D.I.Y punk spirit, Watt is regarded as being one of the most original and influential bassists of all time. His four-decade spanning career has seen him create some of the most critically acclaimed, genre-defying music of recent times while always managing to be both exciting and unique.

It was in 2005 that Watt was first introduced to guitarist Stefano Pilia, a renowned musician at the forefront of the Italian avant-garde music scene, while he was touring Italy. Pilia has created some of the most sonically experimental and intriguing music that has led him to work with artists as diverse as David Grubbs and Phill Niblock. The two remained friends and in 2009, together with drummer Andrea Belfi – a multitalented drummer who gained international interest from his 2006 project Between Neck & Stomach – the trio set out to make music that was both organic and original.

The band will be playing material from “la busta gialla”, which is set to be released in January 2013 via Clenched Wrench records. Mike says of the forming of the band: ‘I was invited to join them in playing six shows in Italy during the late fall of 2009. We needed material for these shows and I thought that if we were going to come together to do that then why not also record the stuff for an album? The resulting sound is the three of us coming from different places and joining together to make a sound singular to the dynamic between us’

plus guests Mary Black, Róisín O & many more

On February 17th, while heading into town from Dalkey, Erin Kenny got off the DART at Tara St. Station and slipped into the path of the departing train. Throughout that night and the following days she fought for her life in intensive care in St. James Hospital. Miraculously she survived though she had numerous internal injuries, broken bones and lost her right leg.

As close friends of Erin’s, artists Danny O’Reilly, Mary Black and Róisín O, have decided to put on a gig to raise money for Erin’s cause. As a single Mam, Erin will have to face many physical and financial difficulties in the months and years to come and all proceeds will go to helping her and her daughter Lily through this difficult time.

With the profits our main aim is to raise enough money to buy Erin a specially adapted car to give her and Lily some independence and help them get back to a normal life.

THE STOLES WHITE OAK BARRELS THE STATICS THIEVES TWISTED FOXES

____________   WhelansLive is proud to present a celebration of new Irish music. Every Tuesday will see the upstairs venue play host to a series of the best of new music this country has to offer.Three hand-picked bands showcase their originality, performance and amazingly fresh songwriting skills. It is a great opportunity to see the next round of Ireland’s unsung and unsigned. ____________ WHITE OAK BARRELS White Oak Barrels formed in late 2011 as an acoustic duo with folk roots and musings towards writing recording and playing. Through various change-overs the band gained and lost members in a state of constant flux. Eventually in October of 2012 Vocalist and guitarist Timmy (Michael O Toole) met Mexican Drummer Carlos Juan Pablo Gamez by chance encounter. The joining of Carlos spliced flavours of rock into the folk style and and added more electric styling to the acoustic sound. Now with the steady back beat, the intensity level of the band increased. After 6 months of work and one more change, the band reached its final configuration, with Klaus Miller of Andújar, Spain on bass guitar. Klaus’s hip-hop background added one final element to the mix of genres. After a brief stint under other names White Oak Barrels was born out of Carlos’s tendency to carry hot sauce in his breast pocket. With Folk sentiments, electric edge and bouncing rhythms White Oak Barrels plays out of earthy Irish roots and with a Latin flare https://www.facebook.com/whiteoakb ____________ TWISTED FOXES New up and coming Alternative/Post punk band from Dublin.
