Formed in 2012, 5 Dollar Shakes are a five piece indie pop-rock band from Gorey, Co. Wexford. Their songs are full of the unbridled energy and enthusiasm associated with young men on the verge of entering their 20’s. The music draws on influences from indie, rock, pop, punk and dance, resulting in a powerful, but accessible sound.

The band consists of Jack McEvoy (Vocals), Colin Doran (Lead guitar), Caleb Dowdall (Rhythm guitar), Richard Deering (Bass guitar) and Ciaran O’Doherty (Drums).

5DS’ live shows are where their energy really comes to the fore. The dynamic stage presence can’t be ignored, and lead singer Jack’s infectious performance encourages the audience to shed their inhibitions! From playing around Wexford in 2012, they played their first Dublin show at the King Kong Club in 2013. Eventually placing 3rd in the Grand Final at the Village Venue. This lead to gigs at the Workman’s Club and Sweeney`s.

In late 2013, they were booked to play at the opening ceremony of the BT Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS, to an audience of 2500 people. Throughout the following year, the band progressed in the Dublin scene through playing gigs at Whelan`s and various UCD and Trinity College society balls.
In 2014, the band won two major unsigned music competitions, establishing themselves as one of Ireland’s top unsigned acts. First, winning the “Unsigned Sessions” competition, the band secured a main stage set at Sea Sessions 2015, following this success by then winning the “Access All Areas” competition, earning a main stage set at the Rose of Tralee Festival 2015.

In December 2014 the band`s debut EP “Back to the Start Again” was released as a free download. It has been well received and mirrors the energy of the 5DS live performance.

Following the successful Summer they had in 2014, had an even bigger Summer in 2015. They made their Festival Main Stage debut at their return to the Sea Sessions Music Festival. There, they shared the same stage as acts such as: The Academic, Le Galexie, The Riptide Movement & Seasick Steve. This was followed by a trip to Sonas Studios in Killarney to record their Second EP, Come and See Enough to Stay. Next came an extremely successful and well-received return to the Rose of Tralee, supporting The Geddes, Hudson Taylor and The Riptide Movement. Continuing to play all kinds of gigs and venues since, the band has been constantly writing and perfecting their sound, with plenty of exciting, catchy, and on occasion morose tunes.

5 Dollar Shakes have released three EP’s so far, the first two being Back to the Start Again (December 2014) & Come and See Enough to Stay (May 2016) along with a number of music videos, and have found the market to be incredibly saturated. Therefore, with the release of these new songs, Transitions (June 2017), they decided to do something different, and have capitalised on a brainwave, and the video making talents of bass player Richard X. Deering. They coupled the tracks with a story; a 17 minute long short film, entitled Transitions, which includes all 3 songs from the new EP, released on most well known music platforms.
The band celebrated this new EP with a Launch Part in a packed out Whelan’s (Upstairs) in August,  where they also unveiled a number of new tracks. They followed this up with a number of gigs, including a special event in Sun Studios, Temple Bar, for Culture Night 2017. After spending the later parts of the year focusing on songwriting and developing their live show, 5 Dollar Shakes are ready to take on 2018 with even greater energy, new songs, and plans to record and release their debut Album by the end of the year.
