WhelansLive is proud to present a celebration of new Irish music. Every Tuesday will see the upstairs venue play host to a series of the best of new music this country has to offer. Three hand-picked bands showcase their originality, performance and amazingly fresh songwriting skills. It is a great opportunity to see the next round of Ireland’s unsung and unsigned.
JUST NO are a Tallaght based band who formed in early 2011. Their energetic live performance and catalogue of impressive original songs have seen them play some of Dublin’s most established live music venues, such as The Olympia, The Academy 1, Whelans, The Button Factory, The Grand Social and the Mercantile. Returning from a tour of Spain in the summer of 2012, Just No gained the attention of Ryan Sheridan, whom they recently opened for in the Hill Of Uisneach. Their cover of Gotye’s hit “Somebody I Used To Know” seen them emerge as Ireland’s most viewed ‘Block C Live Sessions’ band with over 80,000 views, and earned them a place on the main stage in the Academy. Their impressive song writing abilities and unique sound have gotten them on to the Hot Press ’40 Hottest Up and Coming Acts’ list 2012 with the title track from their second EP and debut single ‘Feels Like Home’. Following their recent success supporting The Last Waltz in a sold out Olympia.
Just No launch their first single “Where You Come From” in Whelans on 15th March 2013.
“There is truth to the ‘it’ or ‘x’ factor, it’s hard to pin point what it is exactly. There is something unmistakeable about Just No they’re not imitating anyone so maybe that it is the ‘it’ in this case”
-Music Review Unsigned
“..these guys have got that spark that can’t be taught”
-Jonathan deBurca Butler, Irish Examiner
Diablo DC are a rock band from Dublin City with a penchant for hooks and melodies the likes of which haven’t been heard before! The lads provide the soundtrack for many a nocturnal activity…
Formed via various reputable (and not so…) websites, Keego and Ray met with Gary and Pete, then formed a plot to straddle the world. This is the most vital lineup of the band. Pete spanks a groove over some slinky bass grooves while keego bashes his guitar, this is finished off by Ray’s dulcet tones…
The sound of Diablo DC needs to be heard more than described. But rest assured when you hear it you’ll be wanting more. Diablo DC is the musical equivalent of Pringles…
And after being played in cities from Dublin to Adelaide…..there is no stopping Diablo DC
Susie Mooney is a 19 year old Economic and French student from Dublin. While she is keen to get her degree, her true passion and what she really see’s herself doing is singing. She has been singing all her life, yet is only beginning her career as a professional musician.
Since winning The Wright Factor Dun Laoghaire back in early 2012, Susie has been gigging all over South Dublin with regular slots in The Porterhouse Bray, The Tramyard Dalkey, Gilbert & Wrights Dun Laoghaire and The Purty Kitchen Monkstown. As well as this, she has also been lucky enough to have supported Ryan Sheridan.
Most recently Susie has performed in The Residence, Cafe En Seine and will be playing The Button Factory on March 24th, as well as The Academy on June 29th.
She is continuously writing and learning new material and her originality and unique tone is what makes her stand out from the crowd. Her raw talent see’s her having an extremely bright 2013 so watch this space…
Oak Hollow are a brand new Dublin based Alt/Indie four-piece who started playing together in October 2012. Since then, they’ve been gigging all over the city centre, writing, recording and are soon to release their first EP through the independent label “Putting Out Records”
