MOUKADDEM
QUARTET
feat. JOEY BARON
_ Main Venue _
Joining Sami Moukaddem’s Quartet is one of the most versatile drummers in the world;
Joey Baron played with Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, and recorded with David Bowie (Outside), Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, John Abercrombie – a list too numerous to cover. Sami’s music is an amalgamation of a wide spectrum of influences, from his father and mother’s background, Lebanon and Brazil, living in Ireland since 1985, to just about every sound that influenced him through his travels. By profession a psychologist, Sami is currently making a documentary on depression using himself as a case study, and documenting the healing power of music. The gig, which he hopes to record, is a realisation of a life long dream. Joined by life time friends in Brendan Doyle on saxophones, and Jose Carlos Flores on bass, playing original music that has travelled from deep places to share all facets of life; from raw joy to the delicate sublime and all the quirks in between. Come down, bring your good vibes, and be part of making it happen.
“Sami Moukaddem draws fruitfully on his Middle Eastern heritage to create this fascinating jazz hybrid. It’s a seamless union; neither the compositions nor the performances depend on exoticism to make an impact” – The Irish Times.
