Without stopping to draw breath Dublin’s finest proponents of short, sharp grunge pop outbursts – Otherkin follow their triumphant appearance at Electric Picnic by announcing a headline show at Whelan’s Dublin on Friday 11th November 2016.
Summer 2016 has seen the band wear out their passports and run up the air miles with European festival appearances in France, Austria, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic and no less than seven UK festival shows. Closer to home they were invited to open for Red Hot Chili Peppers at Tennent’s Vital in Belfast. Stage invasions and long distance forays into the crowd for singer Luke Reilly continue to be a hallmark of their riotous sets with The Guardian picking them as one of their overall festival highlights from Reading and Leeds.
Their growing live following is testament to the string of killer tracks the band have dropped over the last year. Initial stand out AY AY was followed quickly with FEEL IT – both gaining traction with BBC Radio 1 and MTV Rocks and securing the band a prestigious Other Voices slot. With the release of The New Vice EP high profile support continued from the likes of Annie Mac, Clara Amfo and Phil Taggart. As Otherkin count down towards the release of their debut album in 2017 it’s worth betting that this will be the last chance to see them in a room this size for some time.
Praise for Otherkin
“It’s not all about the bigger names, though, and two of the best sets come from relative unknowns. Blistering Dublin garage punks Otherkin play … as if it is Madison Square Garden.” – The Guardian
“On Friday the sun decides to make a rare appearance, just in time for Dublin four-piece Otherkin who storm the tiny stage at the Prince Albert like wildling extras from Game of Thrones. Frontman Luke Reilly has his shirt off in the first 10 seconds, and considering it’s 1.30pm they do a superb job of blasting away any cobwebs from the night before.” – The Independent
“Irish rockers Otherkin were another highlight. The band had only arrived off the ferry from Dublin the same morning, but provided a ferocious show with shirtless singer Luke Reilly constantly singing their infectious Catfish and The Bottlemen-style anthems from among the crowd.” – NME
