IMC presents

Start time 9pm

Ken Vandermark  Saxophone
Olie Brice  Bass
Mark Sanders  Drums

“It was like hearing several decades of jazz evolution in an hour. Vandermark, as engrossing a composer as he is powerful as an improviser, strikes a balance between order and freefall comparable to any bandleader in the world.” (The Guardian)

If you enjoyed Improvised Music Company’s previous jaunts down the jazz road less travelled, with corrosive bands like The Thing, then you are sure to find the debut Irish performance by saxophonist Ken Vandermark a satisfying night of full blooded free jazz improv.

These days, Chicago is the spiritual home of free jazz in the US, and Vandermark has made his home there since the 90’s, his gutsy uninhibited tenor in the driving seat of bands like Territory, DKV and Vandermark 5.

Frequently in Europe, fraternizing with saxophonists like Peter Brotzmann and Mats Gustafsson, he will be in good company in Dublin, with propulsive British drummer Mark Sanders, previously seen above Irish ground with musicians as diverse as Jah Wobble and Charles Gayle, and bassist Olie Hayhurst whose creative collaborations include Paul Dunmall and Louis Moholo-Moholo.
