Satisfy your winter longings at this night of music and poetry! —— “Mongoose are certainly one of the most quirky, unusual and interesting bands to come out of Ireland in quite some time.” – Golden Plec After a hugely successful year following the release of their debut self-titled album, Mongoose will host an evening with friends in Whelan’s Main Room on Wexford Street on November 19th, in the theme of Winter Longing. Mongoose bring their unique brand of folk and vocal harmony in this intimate headline gig, with guest appearances from some of their favourite artists. In line with their single, “Slow-burning Feeling”, this event will explore unrequited love and yearning in the depths of Irish winter. Satisfy your winter longings at this night of music and poetry! Special guests include The Young Folk, Griff, Ian Bermingham, Dimitra Xidous, Niamh Regan, and Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin. Mongoose are a fierce female four-some, taking the country’s alternative folk scene by storm. Their music is an amalgamation of styles, ranging from pop and folk to jazz and trad. With nods to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Joni Mitchell and The Andrews Sisters, Mongoose’s influences range from Simon and Garfunkel to Fleetwood Mac, with a dash of Beyoncé in between. Each member being a songwriter allows for an ever-evolving soundscape, from Russian polkas and delicate folk melodies to aching ballads and playful tales of love lost. Their much anticipated, self-titled debut album was released on May 22nd in Dublin, to a sold-out Sugar Club. With festival appearances which include Vantastival, B. A. R. E. in the Woods, Valentia Isle, Groove, Knockanstockan, Body & Soul, Longitude and Electric Picnic, this unique band are sure to delight with their quick onstage banter, eclectic range of instruments and beautifully crafted songs. “Original, smart… the band’s musical accomplishment, gorgeous harmonies and an unquenchable joie de vivre make their performance unique.” -Helena Mulkerns
