MONDO MARCIO

plus support ^ Upstairs ^ Facebook event Mondo Marcio, AKA Gianmarco Marcello, born in Milan on the 1st December 1986. Rapper, beatmaker and music producer. His rapper career began quite early: at the age of 17 he decided to use his material to create his first LP which, also thanks to the help of Bassi Maestro, turned out being really interesting and receiving positive reviews. In May 2004 the LP becomes ‘Mondo Marcio’, his debut album. The underground scene warmly welcomed it. His lyrics narrate tales of his unlucky history, and hopes of escaping from reality. Constantly referring to ‘mondo marcio’ (rotten world), in which people become labelled as ‘marci’ (rotten). The album starts getting positive reviews on major Italian magazin, such as Tutto Musica e Spettacolo. In the same year, Mondo Marco releases ‘Fuori di Qua’, a mix tape to which many masters of underground Hip Hop contributed, with collaborations from the likes of Bassi Maestro, Gue’ Pequeno, Jack The Smoker, Fabri Fibra, Cush, Gomez , Dj Minga and JP. At the end of 2005, Mondo Marcio leaves the lable Vibrarecords to sign with the major EMI/Virgin, releasing with them ‘Solo un Uomo’ in 2006. Its first single, ‘Dentro alla Scatola’, ends up on heavy rotation on MTV Italy for weeks, bringing the album straight into the Top 10, and the single on #2, surpassed only by Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’. ‘Solo un Uomo’ sold over 75000 copies, earning a Gold Disc in Italy. At the beginning 2006, ‘Solo un Uomo’ is re-distributed as ‘Gold Edition’ as a double cd which included a mixtape and a reviesed ‘Dentro una Scatola’, this time recorded with Finley, a hard-pop band from Milan. In July 2007 Mondo Marcio releases his fourth album, again under the major Virgin, titled ‘Generazione X’, and anticipated by its homonymous first single, which was first played at the TRL Awards 2007. The album sells 25000 copies, and it narrates of the new world in which Mondo Marcio is living, made of people who hate him for having sold himself to a major, the love-hate relationship with press and media, but still maintaining the same attitude, using a microphone as a medium to express his rage and frustration. The Generation X is the one of twenty year olds lost in a world without roots, and Mondo Marcio brings in his own thoughts, with his unmistakable style and flow. In the meantime, Mondo Marcio has made it a major point of his life to learn more about Hip Hop, spending time in New York, where he got in touch with some of the most important music producers, ending up producing an album with ‘Southern’ groovy sonorities, mixed with 50 Cent’s style. In 2008, Mondo Cane starts his own lable, Mondo Records, and releases another mixtape, full of names from the Italian underground rap scene, including the likes of NEsli, Cor Veleno, Ensi, Jack the Smoker and Evergreen, as well as the song ‘Tutto puo’ cambiare’ featuring Pier Cortese. In 2012 the album ‘Cose Dell’Altro Mondo’ is released, anticipated by the first two singles: ‘Fight Rap’ and ‘Senza Cuore’. In the rapper’s words, this new album represents his full maturity, including songs he “never dreamt of writing in the past, a lot feel like have been written by a different Mondo Marcio”. Featuring in this album some of the major exponents of the Italian Rap scene, from Caparezza to Vacca, Danti, Two Fingerz, Bassi Maestro, J-Ax, STrano, Emis Killa and Killacat. To celebrate the first 10 years of collaboration between Mondo Marcio and Bassi Maestro, the two rappers release the EP ‘VIeni a Prenderci’, released on iTunes Store in November 2013. In 2014 the concept album ‘Nella Bocca della Tigre’ is released, which includes songs sung by the Italian iconic singer Mina, whom, for the first time in her career, allowed another artist to use her tracks. In 2015 the 7th album ‘La Freschezza del Marcio’ is released, anticipated by the homonymous single and a second single, ‘Me & My Bitch’ In the same year the track ‘Gotham’ is released, written for the soundtrack of the videogame ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’. In July 2016, the rapper releases the free download mixtape ‘Rap God’, which includes 9 brand new tracks and 4 remixes. Mondo Marcio has also produced the song ‘Se Mi Ami Davvero’ for the album ‘Le Migliori canzoni di Mina e Adriano Celentano’, released in June 2017.
