TRIBAL DANCE

// Tribal Dance Audio Visual Headline Show at Whelan’s Upstairs //

Tribal Dance are a progressive post-punk/math rock band from Dublin. They quickly gained the attention of local music blogs and promoters from their energetic and intense live performances. Influenced by musical direction of progressive and experimental artists, their songs don’t follow the traditional verse/chorus/verse structure, instead go on a tangent of experimentation that combines upbeat dance rhythms, dark dissonant riffs and chords, screaming vocals and thumping bass lines. They blend many genres and musical ideas into songs and follow wherever the song takes them, from heavy distorted riffs, to math-pop jams, to slow instrumental experimental bridges, to long dramatic build ups. Constant changes in dynamics and ideas within songs lead to an intense and dramatic live performances.

Their debut single “Flongo” gained rave reviews from music blogs across the country and radio play in Ireland and the UK. Including Nialler9’s #1 song in Ireland you should hear now and JOE.ie’s song of the day.

“Math rock makes a return to the Irish music scene! Tribal Dance reminds me of all the Richter Collective gigs, the music of Not Squares and Cap Pas Cap that had a big hold on what was going on in the country 10 years ago. ‘Flongo’ is this Dublin trio’s debut single and features the rhythmic tautness of early Foals with a bassline in a rush to the finish.” Nialler9

“Flongo combines rapid rhythmic drumming that you associate with Adebisi Shank with the precise fret work of Foals and some urgent post punk yelping. It’s a sweaty, thrilling tune and signals Tribal Dance as ones to keep an eye on.” Goldenplec

“It’s dizzying and all over the shop in the very best of ways, those snares take a right pounding and the bass and wobbling guitar effects pack an almighty punch, add to that some Beastie Boys-esque rhyme spitting and we have a serious first outing from the trio on our hands.” Remy’s Music and Film
