Galants are a noise-pop four piece from Dublin incorporating the jangled pop tones of Teenage Fanclub, the fuzzed-out assault of Dinosaur Jr and the reverberated bombast of My Bloody Valentine.
In the summer of 2015 the band released a trilogy of singles recorded at Darklands Audio, showcasing an aesthetic of cascading layers, riotous drums and soft melodious vocals. The first track, ‘This is Heaven’ saw Galants merge Bob Mould-esque power pop hooks within a textural noise bedrock and was marked out by Nialler9 as a “track of the week” in The Irish Times.
Second single, ‘Seventeen’ caught the attention of Hot Press Magazine who named the song as a “single of the fortnight” and later profiled the band as a rising act to watch. To complete the set, a final track ‘Out of Sight’ was released in September and was singled out for praise by The Thin Air and BBC Ulster’s Across the Line who showcased the song as a “track of the day”.
Galants is originally the brainchild of David Kennedy who formed the band in January 2014 having moved to Dublin from London. Harbouring a love for Creation Records era 90s alternative rock, the road eventually led to the meeting of James McDonald (Drums, ex-Yakuza), Colin O’Dwyer (Bass, Thedaysofyourlife) and Ruairi Paxton (Guitar, ex-The Things & Sweet Jane)
Galants recently appeared at Hard Working Class Heroes in October 2016 and are set to release their debut EP this autumn. Lead single, ‘Evergreen’, is currently streaming on Spotify.

Formed in a Belfast bedroom in 2015 by brothers Stevie & Jake Lennox and Brian Coney from rural Mid-Ulster, Junk Drawer are an indie rock quartet. Featuring members of Sister Ghost, PigsAsPeople & Mons Olympus (amongst others), they function as much as a collective as a they do a band; each member is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, with roles changing from song-to-song depending on how they feel it should take form.
Musically, they’re driven by the near-telepathic sense of chemistry & harmony that comes from a sibling creative rivalry at the helm, as well as four musical magpies collecting and sharing inspiration from all corners, including krautrock, guitar-driven ’80s & ’90s indie & alternative rock, post-punk, and psych. Lyrically, it’s kitchen sink absurd realism about the human condition, with influences ranging from Jonathan Franzen to Stewart Lee, Marc Maron to Mark Kozelek.
Before their number of gigs could be counted on more than one hand, Junk Drawer supported Jeffrey Lewis – who proclaimed them “the best support band I’ve seen in really quite some time” – and were included in 2016’s Hard Working Class Heroes showcase.
They’ve received airplay and plaudits on BBC 6Music from Tom Robinson – who also included them in his BBC Introducing Mixtape – BBC Radio 1’s Phil Taggart, RTE 2fm’s Dan Hegarty as well as the BBC Across The Line and Electric Mainline’s Steven McCauley, amongst others further afield.
The band’s latest single, ‘Song 3’ was taken off their new EP ‘For The Cult Fat Guy’ – out October 28 – was featured on Little L Records’ recent four-way split, ‘A Litany Of Failures’, which follows up on 2015’s ‘Their Self-Loathing Debut (Mostly)’.
