GENTLEBOYS

ERIC Mc GRATH

MR. SANDS

Whelanslive is proud to present a celebration of new Irish music. Tuesday the 17th of April will see the upstairs venue in Whelans playing host to a series of the best of new music this country has to offer each week. Every Tuesday night will see three hand-picked bands showcase their originality, performance and amazingly fresh songwriting skills.  It is a great opportunity to see the next round of Irelands unsung and unsigned.

MR. SANDS

http://breakingtunes.com/mrsands A five piece rock band based in Dublin, Mr Sands formed October 2010 in aid of a Halloween party and have not looked back since. An eclectic background of musical interest, Mr Sands sound can be described as a mash up of hard rock, blues rock and indie rock with influences ranging from The Doors to The Strokes to Queens of The Stone Age. “We play the music that comes out naturally and have no intention to fit into any musical stereotype or gimmick. We’re about having fun on stage and hopefully turning a few heads in the process”. Highlights so far include King Kong 2011 Finalists and KnockanStockan artists 2011

ERIC Mc GRATH

http://www.ericmcgrathmusic.com/ “Beautifully crafted song-writing and enveloping arrangements” (JULIE FEENEY) Born in Dublin to a Spanish mother and an Irish father, Eric was raised on a healthy mix of music from around the globe. With a strong love of Latin grooves, 1920’s North American song craftsmanship, and 1960’s Surf harmonies, it wasn’t long before Eric began to blend his diverse inspirations through his own unique compositions. After completing an honours degree in Chemistry at University College Dublin, Eric finally succumbed to his true calling by obtaining a Masters in Music and Media from Trinity College Dublin. 2011 saw Eric supporting such musical luminaries as Cathy Davey, Dave Geraghty, Vyvienne Long and Tiger Cooke, he was also invited as guest performer to the American Ireland Fund’s Summer Event in New York where he performed every night from 17 to 24th July, including the main event on the 21st. A wider audience awaits…

GENTLEBOYS

http://www.breakingtunes.com/gentleboys Dublins Fresh Synth-Pop outfit came together in 2011 when Drummer Rowan Noonan- Ganely joined Forces with Paul Maguire and James Hays ( both from the band “ Marzipan”) combining hard dance beats, punchy bass, melodic guitar and synth leads. This three-piece bring together diverse influences and mix it into an exciting and very original sound. The live show is a like going to the state fair, exciting, breathtaking, roller-coasters and plenty of candy. Really a space worth watching. Gentleboys have released two studio recordings this year, ‘Coffee’ and ‘Ready or Not’. In various arrangements we have played at the Village, the King Kong Club, The Song Room at the The Globe, Wexford’s Sky and the Ground, Captains Live, Ulysees Venue, the Bernard Shaw, The Venue DCU and NCAD.
