Whelan’s Newest Music Night

Whelanslive is proud to present a celebration of new Irish music. Tuesday the 10th of April will see the upstairs venue in Whelans playing host to a series of the best of new music this country has to offer each week. Every Tuesday night will see three hand-picked bands showcase their originality, performance and amazingly fresh songwriting skills.  It is a great opportunity to see the next round of Irelands unsung and unsigned.

Formed in the Summer of 2007, Following the split of two different bands Phil, Aidan and Dean joined together to form The Kartels. Phil and Aidan had worked together in various bands and had been working together on songs whilst on the lookout for a new bass player and Drummer. Following the break up of a local band Gengus, Dean joined the two lads and they began putting together songs and looking for a bass player. Following a conversation at Oxegen between Dean and Rob. Rob a guitarist by trade decided to switch to playing Bass and make the full line up for The Kartels. The Band started off playing the smaller venues of Dublin such as The Hub and Eamonn Dorans before deciding to play local gigs to fund recording sessions. These local gigs acted as a platform for the band to take a step up to the bigger venues of Dublin such as The Academy, Whelans and Village. The Kartels have built up the reputation as an honest hard working band have continued to gig regularly around venues of Dublin. The band draw their influences from right across the genre that is Rock. This is evident from the blues influenced ballads to their distortion drivin’ indie hits.
March 24th 2012 Sees the launch of the Kartels latest EP ” Far from the Silence”. This will take place in the Whelans of Wexford Street.

I am A Car Crash are easily becoming one of Dublins biggest and loudest bands.  They are taking the underground scene by surprise as they have been hiding in the bushes waiting to pounce. Pounce they have. As heard in tracks like “Awkward Ambassador ” A pure mix of progressive punk rock firing guitars like machine guns and lyrics that would make Jim Morrison check in to the hotel.

HyperGiants are a Dublin and Navan based band that have been together since 2010, and since then have quickly gained a reputation as fervent performers. Music Review Unsigned said  “…the energy invoked in their performance is mesmerising.”Their first single, Lost Souls was released February 3rd 2012, and shot to number 1 in the Irish i-Tunes rock chart. The band has supported Delorentos and The Mighty Stef, and performed at Knockanstockan 2011. Their music is a mix of rock with a pop infusion; strong guitar riffs with haunting lyrics and simple sweet harmonies.“Getting in on these guys now will make you the cool kid.” – Music Review Unsigned
