BLAITHIN CARNEY

^ Upstairs ^

Irish singer-songwriter and gifted pianist, Blaithin Carney, writes lyrical, relatable songs underpinned by powerful lyrics, emotional depth and classical influences. Perfectly treading the line between sincere balladry and indie sensibilities, Blaithin Carney weaves her distinctive vocals around the complexities of contemporary life issues through emotionally exposing lyrics.

Over the last 18 months, Blaithin Carney has taken the Irish music scene by storm, with four Top 5 hits in the Irish singer-songwriter charts. Her debut single, Rome, entered at #1, knocking Ed Sheeran off the top spot.

In 2018, Blaithin featured in the infamous Irish acoustic showcase, The Ruby Sessions, and performed at Whelan’s Women on Wednesday. She played support for Glen Hansard’s sell-out gig at Vicar Street as guest pianist with The Pale, and wowed a full house at the National Concert Hall in aid of Aidlink for Turkana alongside her band, string quartet and the Mezzo Music Academy Choir.

Blaithin headlined the Naas Midsummer Festival in the ethereal surroundings of McAuley Place. This is where she launched ‘No Means No, a powerful stand against the widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment.

Performing Upstairs in Whelan’s on Saturday, 24th May, Blaithin’s vivid storytelling coupled with her breath-taking pianism will undoubtedly appeal to fans of Regina Spektor, Ásgeir, Grace Carter, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple and Jewel.
