House and Land is the duo of Sally Anne Morgan (fiddle, shruti box, banjo, vocals) and Sarah Louise Henson (vocals, 12-string guitar, shruti box, bouzouki). Sally and Sarah started playing together after Sarah opened for The Black Twig Pickers for whom Sally plays the fiddle. The duo quickly discovered that they were both interested in the same very specific forms of traditional music. Additionally, they both viewed it through the lens of their shared love of modern, experimental and minimal music. “We honor what two voices and bodies can do in one moment in time. It totally shapes our sound.”

Their playing together is wholly unmediated, without amplifiers and using just two sets of hands and voices. With a minimalist approach, their music considers the space between notes as much as the notes themselves. The material on their debut is drawn from traditional southern hymns and Appalachian ballads that originated in England and elsewhere hundreds of years ago. Microtonality is as essential to certain Appalachian vocal styles as it is to a Tony Conrad composition and the often spare adornment to their singing puts these complexities on full display. The songs, however, are not entirely unadorned. Sally and Sarah are both masters of their instruments and on several tracks they bring in percussionist Thom Nguyen, who plays with an improviser’s ear.

DYLAN GOLDEN AYCOCK

https://dylangoldenaycock.com/
https://www.facebook.com/dylangoldenaycock/
https://twitter.com/talk_west

“Dylan Golden Aycock’s lineage is clear: the fingerpicked blues of John Fahey, the swirling compositions of Robbie Basho and the outward-looking Americana of Jim O’Rourke’s Bad Timing and The Visitor. That’s not a bad crossroads to meet your demons at, especially when so much of what we call American Primitive now is in a state of transformation. Church Of Level Track kicks up dream dust in a positively lush collection of cosmic rags, ambient country tunes and steel-string ragas.” -NPR (Lars Gotrich)

”Each song is a jewel box of subtly shifting textures and moods centered on Aycock’s expert fingerpicking, and layered with dreamy pedal steel drifts, percussive touches and interlocking arrangements. Church of Level Track switches between crystal clear visions of the country and pleasingly disorienting and dissonant moments, Aycock guiding us through the journey with a sure hand. An album that keeps on giving.” – Aquarium Drunkard

”vagaries are what make Aycock’s work endlessly fascinating. The dude is excelling at creating lovely music that continually questions where one sound ends and another begins (if a new sound begins at all), while marrying folk simplicity to sonic complexity.” -Tiny Mix Tapes

_ Main Venue _ Facebook event

After a couple of Sold-Out Irish shows last year and headline sets at Sea Sessions alongside a sell-out at The Galway Arts Festival Badly Drawn Boy or Damon Gough as he’s known to by his Mum makes a return to Dublin for an exclusive show in Whelans. In his own words “I really love playing Ireland and I can’t wait to get back there. I get a lot of love from the Irish Audience and I always get looked after.” Damon is having something of second coming and as he says himself he’s only half way through his career. He likes to think of the second half only starting now.
Go right back to 2000 and  the Mercury Prize-winning, seminal ‘The Hour of the Bewilderbeast’, announced the arrival of the badly drawn genius of Damon Gough. It’s been a curious, wonderful, inimitable, unpredictable career so far of major prizes and minor incidents, all possibilities and magic in the air.  Since then he has released four subsequent studio albums – Have You Fed The Fish? (2002), One Plus One Is One (2004), Born In The UK (2006) and It’s What I’m Thinking Part 1: Photographing Snowflakes (2010) – and three film soundtracks, About A Boy (2002, from the film of the same name), Is There Nothing We Could Do? (2009, from the Caroline Aherne film The Fattest Man In The UK) and Being Flynn (from the 2012 film of the same name). His soundtrack to the 2002 film About A Boy, starring Hugh Grant, remains one of Badly Drawn Boy’s most critically acclaimed and successful albums (certified Gold in the UK) and spawned two singles, ‘Silent Sigh’ and ‘Something To Talk About’.
Expect all the hits with a few surprises along the way.

Future Stops are a five-piece indie rock band from Dublin, Ireland. Their energetic performance and sprawling sound is driven by the thundering drums of Elaine Cullen, atmospheric keyboards of Barry McDonald and encapsulated by the presence of dual frontmen Mark Guilfoyle and Conor O’Boyle.

The band became fully formed at the beginning of 2017 when notable musician Darragh Cullen (The New 52, The Sour Seeds) joined to complete the lineup and have since gained an exciting live reputation from a multitude of gigs throughout the year from supporting Hudson Taylor at The Academy to opening the main stage at the inaugural student festival The Ball at Dun Laoighaire Harbour. Having blown the Irish music scene wide open in 2014 with their Number One, gold-selling album ‘Getting Through’, a string of Top 10 singles and various sold-out headline tours, The Riptide Movement continue their international rise with upcoming European and Worldwide release of their newest album ‘Ghosts’ amidst a run of upcoming Irish, European & US dates throughout the rest of the year.

‘Ghosts’ is a journey that began somewhere between the Caragh River and the Seefin mountains of Gleinbeigh, Co Kerry, and came to completion in Tornillo, Texas, thirty miles East of the Rio Grande, under the guidance of Grammy award winning producer, Ted Hutt. The result is an emotional listen and the perfect bookend for a concept album that opens up conversations that span the generations. There is an authenticity in everything The Riptide Movement do. It permeates their sound and defines their approach.

This charity event will be the very first show the guys have done in Whelan’s in a very long time and we are delighted that they agreed to support such a good cause. All proceeds for the show will go to Child Vision Ireland. Over 150 years old, ChildVision is the only place in Ireland totally dedicated to the education and therapy needs of blind and multi-disabled children.

Fellow busker and Ireland’s golden guitar player NC Lawlor will be the support. Nc has taking the international Blues scene by storm in recent years and this will be a home coming for him.
