THE DEAD FLAGS

THE DEAD FLAGS

+ Guests The Dead Flags return to Whelans with a free show on Tuesday 26th July. A year on from their acclaimed debut album “Gentlemen’s Club”, the band are back with a new standalone single, the criminally catchy “You Got It Wrong”. A stronger, more focussed recording, the single brims with the confidence of a band who know who they are and exactly what they’re doing. Produced by the band with rising Irish producer Ciaran Bradshaw (O Emperor, Miracle Bell), “You Got It Wrong” sees the band embrace their poppier leanings. A punky take on 1950’s doo-wop with an irresistible chorus floating on dreamy harmonies, the song perfectly captures the band’s live sound. Working with Karl Odlum (Ham Sandwich, The Frames) and Steve Rooke (Franz Ferdinand) to produce their debut album in 2010, the Flags were tipped as “a band for the future” (Irish Independent) with Hot Press calling the album “a 12-song, 40-minute all singing, all dancing extravaganza”. That album spawned the singles “Let’s Start A Fire Tonight” which AU Magazine described as “one of the best Irish pop songs of the year” and their biggest hit to date, “Anymore” which spent three weeks on RTE’s Daytime Playlist and was chosen as a “Daily Download” by Today FM’s Tony Fenton. Following the departure of drummer Kevin Lowery last year, the band went on hiatus, taking their longest break from live performance ever. Now rejuvenated and ready to unleash their self-professed “favourite single ever”, the boys are delighted to get back on the road. Following an 8-date national tour in May, the band are looking forward to displaying their immensely energetic live chops, honed from years of touring at home and abroad as well as supports to the likes of The Coronas and Therapy?. With praise from all corners and a fantastic new single to promote, The Dead Flags are very much back in business.

THE CASANOVA WAVE

THE CASANOVA WAVE

+ guests

Hailing from the south-east of Ireland, The Casanova Wave is the creative outlet of Brian McCartan. The Casanova Wave emerged onto the Irish music scene duringthe Summer of 2010 and it was’nt long before his unique style of music enraptured all who encountered it. His performance and debut EP have won over the ears, hearts and dancing feet of the masses. The happy-go-lucky mix of warm electronica and fresh live instruments are complimented by an array of sounds, melodies, bouncing rhythms, bright guitars and pulsing synths.

The live shows are also fresh and energetic, with Brian performing as much of the music live as he can, switching from instrument to instrument as the music builds – including laptop, synth, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums. This fusion of instruments create a full pulsating and uplifting sound that one is defied not to dance to.

Mid-September 2010 saw the release of the self-titled The Casanova Wave EP which has been receiving rave reviews. Among these acclamations, included a much coveted mention in The Irish Times ‘Best Irish Acts of 2010’ list.

The Casanova Wave is preparing to go back into studio to work on his forthcoming debut album and you can catch him at Castlepalooza this August Bank Holiday.
