THE NEW WAVE

^ Upstairs ^

Tripping beats and spilling fills, The New Wave have been building a unique buzz since forming last year. The band formed when vocalist/guitarist Tony Power recruited drummer Shane Askins and bassist Níon Geraghty to help develop his music making. “When the band got together, I had been playing solo for a couple of months” says Power. “I had played in bands with both guys before, so it was great to finally get something going with them again”.

Later joined by guitarist Jason Keane, it wasn’t long until the band were out playing shows, and even hitting the studio to see what sounds they could create. The band have been developing a broad indie style that touches on many eras, while also creating a self-aware sound, a unique signature in the vain of artists like Bowie or the Stones. You will know who this band is the minute the first note sings. Their unconventional image is reminiscent of a young Manic Street Preachers crossed with a modern take on bohemian culture. Socially, this is a band that want to get the party jumping and the people moving to their groove.

Set to release their debut EP, featuring tracks Silly Love and Stoner Girl. The band are currently gearing for a run of European shows, including stops in Amsterdam, London and Berlin. The New Wave are a talented outfit, and have the potential to be an act that stands out amongst the crowd. They are posed to be a band that are firm festival favourites for years to come.
