ALDOC

plus guest ^ Upstairs ^ ALDOC – Global Sounds Breaking the Sound Barrier ALDOC is the new band led by ex-Gráda frontman and Lord of the Rings soloist Alan Doherty. Produced by his long time collaborator Gerry Paul, “From Tallaght to Halle” was recorded between Germany and New Zealand and the music is driven by the Irish flute, yet lifted brilliantly by settings derived from Doherty and Paul’s love of urban sounds. The tracks will take listeners through several musical soundscapes, led by charmed melodies on the flute and lit up with jazz-tinged arrangements, heavy grooves, spooky brass solos, tremolo affected electric guitars, lonely banjo lines and dramatic breakdowns. Evocative and exotic vocals – some, in an inspired twist, chant-like – feature on many tracks. QUOTES: “It was a revelation to hear Alan Doherty’s band…they were scintillating. He drives it on flute and low whistle, he raps sings jousts and boogies and his German, Danish, English, Dutch and Waterford comrades follow him gallantly wherever he leads…We left Whelan’s dazzled and dazed by Last Nights Fun…” Christy Moore “…reels are rolled into new song ideals, set against different musical landscapes but it’s the power and skill of Doherty (mixed with Paul’s vision) that makes this work. And it really works. A lovely set of tunes.” Simon Sweetman www.offthetracks.co.nz “Alan Doherty’s pristine and soulful flute and whistle playing blazes a new trail on the new recording “From Tallaght to Halle”. This virtuoso easily updates and reinforces the common bond between his own traditional Irish dance music and the music of the rest of world.” – Tim O’Brien “I regard Alan Doherty as one of Irelands foremost traditional flute players. I wish him well in this…If you’re into flute madness, check it out!” – Matt Molloy
