MAMA KASBAH

– PLAY THE FRONT BAR –

7pm – FREE ENTRY

Mama Kasbah is a band or, as the name says itself, a “community” of sounds, rhythms and languages from many corners of the Mediterranean Sea with colors from Latin America and Jamaica. Mama Kasbah sings in English, Spanish, Sicilian, Italian and more to produce a global sound that moves beyond the boundaries.
The fresh and original mix of rumba, ska, reggae, balkan and Latin American rhythms makes Mama Kasbah a real dancing machine and a source of positive vibrations.Since the very beginning the band has played on the stage of numerous venues in Dublin area (The Grand Social, Twisted Pepper, Whelan’s, Sweeney’s) and festivals around Ireland (Body and Soul, KnockanStockan, Life Festival) becoming more and more popular every time.
As the spirit of the band is sensitive to social aspects such anti-racism, human rights, and interculturalism, Mama Kasbah has played to several charity and volunteering events.

Mama Kasbah was officially founded in February 2012 by Fabio, a Sicilian songwriter and guitarist, and Christophe, a guitarist from the French suburbs. During the first year of existence, the band was a lab of musical choices in order to find the right sound and spirit.
After some changes to the line-up, Angel (from Madrid, Spain) generates the energetic beat of the drums, Carl (from Toulouse, France) leads the bass frequencies, and Alberto (from Barcelona, Spain) pushes colours with his percussions.
Christophe (ex Sincop’Hat member) joined straight after as guitarist, bringing his sound from the French suburbs made of gypsy swing and rumba veins. With Mama Kasbah’s line-up he also embraces the accordion. During the first year of existence, the band was a lab of musical choices in order to find the right sound and spirit.

After some changes in the line-up, Jaime (from the Basque Country) joined the family as bassist. He brought in a number of peculiar aspects of the dub-rock and latin music together with his wisdom and crazy energy. Since the end of 2012 the core rhythm of the band is lead by Angel on the drums, an experienced Spanish rocker with Latin beat.
