[THE SPECIALS / 2 TONE RECORDS] Doors 9pm til Late _ Main Venue _ Facebook event The founder of Coventry band The Specials and the man behind 2 Tone Records returns to Dublin, Dee Jaying the main room in Whelan’s of Wexford Street, in association with The Thomas House. Playing a mix of American Jazz, Jump Blues, Ska & Reggae, the soundtrack from Kingston to Coventry. Jerry will be will be joined by Dublin spinner Polly from Mash It Up Club, so expect an eclectic mix of music on the night. As well as establishing 2 Tone Records, which helped develop the 1970s/1980s ska revival he also became an anti-apartheid campaigner, helping to create Artists Against Apartheid in the U.S and writing the song “Free Nelson Mandela” in 1984, Jerry Dammers is a founder member and principal songwriter of one of the UK’s most important bands of all time The Specials. Re-emerging in this Millennium as a DJ of some repute, Dammers also now performs with his band The Spatial AKA Orchestra, playing his own compositions and tributes to Sun Ra and other experimental jazz artists.
