Whelan’s Upstairs

Having just formed in April 2021, Dublin based post-rock/electronica artist wornoc (aka Conor Walsh) has carved out a niche in forward-pushing alternative-electronic sounds from these shores. At the heart of his craft is a sensibility rooted in the push-and-pull of post-rock – all gossamer phrases one moment and surging release the next – inspired by the likes of God Is An Astronaut, Massive Attack and Bonobo. Having championed the likes of Rock Sound Magazine, BBC Introducing, RTÉ and Hot Press Magazine, it’s clear there is something special and novel to his work, sounds that are far removed from what’s going on in the Irish music scene. wornoc’s music is cinematic, intense and emotional. Driven by infectious grooves, lush ambient textures, melodic guitar riffs and electronic music. To date, wornoc has collaborated with highly renowned musicians – Andrew Marshall (drummer for Billie Eilish), Justin Nace (Ex member of PVRIS), Josh Manual (ISSUES) and Brian Finnegan (Flook).

“wornoc provides an intricate, delicate and technically brilliant display of music being built from the ground up” – Rock Sound

“Truly incredible music” – Dan Hegarty, 2FM

“Stunning, emotional, relaxing, intense and cinematic” – Hot Press

Debut Album ‘Tranquillity’
Released on the 4th November, the self-released debut album ‘Tranquillity’ has been over a year and a half in the making. Produced and mixed in wornoc’s purpose built home studio, the 9-track album showcases various genres of music that has shaped the sound of this project such as post-rock, electronica and traditional Irish music. ‘Tranquillity’ features guest artists from renowned whistle/flute player Brian Finnegan of the band Flook, along with brief cameo’s throughout the record from Donegal fiddle player, Ellie McGinley.

Quote: “It’s a relief to finally release this album to the world. A year and a half ago, this project was just meant to be a creative outlet in an attempt to write music that was out of my comfort zone and to become a better producer/mixing engineer. I never thought it was going to be something that would have been well received by so many people as it has, let alone allow me to collaborate with many great artists such as Brian Finnegan, Andrew Marshall (drummer of Billie Eilish) and Justin Nace (ex-drummer of PVRIS). My fondest moment of this whole process was when Brian invited me up to his home a few days before Christmas to demo out ideas for the track we did together. He was very kind and accommodating. His music is something I have adored for many years so to get to work with him meant a lot. I am looking forward to hitting the road next year in support of the album and I am pumped to open for God Is An Astronaut on a couple of their Irish dates this October.”
