Pete Cummins brings his band “Something Wicked” to Whelan’s on Sept 22 nd for a one off gig with drummer Fran Breen coming over from Nashville being the motivation.

Fran was the drummer in The Fleadh Cowboys with Pete until he was poached by Nanci Griffith for her Full Moon Orchestra. He then went on to play with Lucinda Williams, Shelby Lynn and others and settled in Nashville.

The Band, Pete…Vocals and guitar, Trevor Knight… Keys, Garvan Gallagher…Bass and Fran on Drums will also feature guest ace guitar player Mal O Brien. Pete Cummins started his first band The Stepping Stones in 1964, inspired by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, by 1968 he was heading for London as Bass Player with Ireland Premier Group Granny’s Intentions to record an album Honest Injun for Deram.

By 1972 the group disbanded and Pete was recruited by world famous singer Donovan as bass player. This lasted for less than a year and Pete took time out to marry and work at leather craft and traded in Dublin’s Dandelion Market. After a time with another band, The Fake Pete headed to the US and spent the next year in Miami.

In 1985 along with Johnny Moynihan and Frankie Lane they formed The Fleadh Cowboys and after Johnny left the band they started a Friday night residency in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre which became Midnight at the Olympia, a phenomenally successful event which changed the musical landscape in Ireland. The Fleadhs recorded two albums High Ace to Heaven and Time of your Life.

After supports with acts like U2, Bob Dylan, The Pogues, and years of touring, the Fleadhs retired and Pete recorded and played as a solo artist. He has released two albums The Brilliant Architect and Crooked Highway. He is now promoting “Looking for the Magic” a double compilation album.
