METALLITIA – CLIFF BURTON 37th ANNIVERSARY SHOW – WHELAN’S, SUNDAY 24th SEPTEMBER

As a tribute to the late, great Cliff Burton, Metallitia have decided to play a commemorative date on the 37th anniversary of his passing with a major Dublin show at Whelan’s on Sunday, September 24.

Cliff Burton was the original bass player and founding member with Metallica and was a cornerstone of their first 3 albums which constitutes the core of the classic Metallica output. Cliff died tragically and unexpectedly in 1986 but remains a figure of reverence for all true Metallica fans.

Metallitia came into existence in 1996 when they were approached to form a unit to play a memorial gig for the aforementioned Cliff. In the intervening 27 years they have established themselves as the foremost Metallica tribute in Europe and are respected everywhere as true interpreters of the classic Metallica sound.

Metallitia became national celebrities when they won RTE’s inaugural Reality Rock Show, Karl Spain Wants To Rock, run over 5 weeks on RTE 2, back in 2010, which saw them win a place on the headlining bill for Europe’s top tribute festival Glastonbudget in England. They also created a little bit of history as the first and only non-Thin Lizzy tribute act to play the annual Vibe for Philo commemorative event in Dublin, staged every 5th January. Metallitia also gained further respect for themselves as backing band for legendary ex-Iron Maiden frontman Paul Di’Anno on his occasional Irish tours.

The band’s set juggernauts on for over two hours with what can only be described as a greatest hits show, featuring classic gems like ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’, ‘Fade to Black’, ‘Battery’, ‘Master of Puppets’, ‘One’, ‘Creeping Death’, ‘Enter Sandman‘, ‘Am I Evil’, ‘Blackened’ and finishing off with ‘Seek & Destroy’. The poster for the gig says it all: “Master of Tributes” – They certainly are!

The line-up is…

“Flash” Murphy on vocals and guitar
Richie Sheahan on lead guitar
Paddy Levins on bass guitar
Jimmy Brennan on drums
