“As always with a Mark Geary show, you are treated to something extra special, extra wonderful and extra personal”. – G. Maher

Acclaimed lyricist, Mark Geary is delighted to be back at Whelan’s!

Described as a “quintessential singer-songwriter” Hot Press. Mark has spent the last 30 years touring the world and recording songs that capture the hallmarks of human frailty. A seasoned tourer, he returns from his Italian tour to play this Christmas Show! Which will no doubt come with the beautifully nostalgic Christmas Biscuits song that Mark has played with good friend Glen Hansard on so many occasions.

Now based in Co. Kildare, Mark is currently writing and recording his 6th studio album, using the backdrop of his backyard – the forest – as an inspiration for his writing. He says, “the pandemic has been a catalyst for deep thinking”, it has provided him with time to settle in one place for an extended period and “a time that has become something of a renaissance period in his song writing.” The Journal of Music.

Early in 2020 he released the first single “The Forest” to critical acclaim— “A beautiful new single…A stunning acoustic track supported by emotive backing vocals and keys; we hear the thoughtful, reflective lyricism which Geary is known for once again rise to the fore”. reclessreviews.com.

Followed by his second single — “Spectre” — December. 2020, describing it as the B side to “The Forest” track released earlier in the year. Good friend and acclaimed producer Dave Odlum, [recently produced Sam Smith’s latest album], and ROMY [Ruth O’Mahony Brady] co-produced “Spectre”.

During 2020 Mark underwent surgery he had on his hand to fix a ‘trigger finger’ injury he sustained as a result of guitar-playing, he is so grateful to the go-fund me supporters who donated for the surgery. Thankfully well mended, he is so happy to be able to tour and connect with his audiences once again.
