Cavan’s rising stars, Marcus Magee & The Hollaw Men, are set to electrify Whelan’s main venue on Thursday, July 18th, as they celebrate the release of their highly acclaimed new album, ‘Rising from the Hollaw’. Their recent gig at The Sugar Club sold out in just 48 hours, so grab your tickets for what is set to be a night to remember.
Formed in October 2022 after frontman Marcus Magee’s triumphant recovery from stage 4 cancer, the band quickly garnered a devoted following. Music was pivotal in Magee’s healing journey, inspiring him to share his rich trove of original songs with the world.
Initially conceived for a one-off performance at their local theatre, Marcus Magee & The Hollaw Men quickly became a sensation, leading to multiple sell-out shows throughout 2023. Their debut album has received critical acclaim and attracted national and international attention. Their spine-tingling debut single, Mac Dee, received widespread radio play. Fiachna Ó Braonáin from RTÉ Radio 1 called it “a beautiful and poignant piece of work.”
Magee, a masterful storyteller, interweaves his profound personal experiences with powerful songs about hope, fear, and love. Attendees can expect an emotionally charged, inspiring, and authentic performance that has captivated audiences nationwide.
The evening will feature a dynamic mix of high-energy rock, blues, folk, and traditional Irish music, all imbued with the Hollaw Men’s unique sound. Special guests include Australian guitarist Ben Folkman and the mesmerizing Omen Ceol.
“This is a project much bigger than me. I feel like we’re celebrating life and just having fun, and even though there are plenty of deep and serious songs, we’re not taking it all too seriously. It’s a great buzz to get noticed and pack out the venues and all that, but really, the joy is in the playing and being able to share these songs with people, and I’m very grateful for that”. – Marcus Magee
