The premise of this project is that, due to the depth of the genre, a large amount of the jazz canon has fallen out of the repertoire of the jazz community. The goal of the performance is to shine a spotlight on tunes, through modern reinterpretation, which deserves wider recognition for the artistic achievements that they represent. The show encompasses a wide variety of styles from the blues through the swing and bop eras and beyond, with a special emphasis on those songs which are rarely sung but whose lyrics are an artistic achievement in themselves.
Ultimately, the mission of The Three Island Collective is to inspire both their fellow musicians and those who enjoy the artform to dig deeper into the repertoire in order to expand their musical horizons.
