BIO

LIZA MICHAEL

I am a Irish national singer from France (nobody’s perfect!) new to the Dublin scene where I irremediably fell in love. As a "triple threat", singing, acting and dancing, my journey has been leading me worldwide, performing, directing and coaching whether on stage, on screen or in the wings. I had the privilege to work with some of my heroes like Jazz creators Michel Legrand, Francis Lai, Sacha Distel, Henri Salvador, Bireli Lagrene and Linley Marthe. Being a workaholic, I kept digging and was invited to expand my vocal versatility through the “Glenn Miller Memorial Orchestra” to the “James Brown Tribute Band” by way of “Hot Couture”, the first mash-up live band. Maintaining my multi-disciplinary background saw the musical theatre spotting me to co-lead the famous “Folies Bergere” revue, “Hair”, “Creatures”, etc… and I have been lending my skills to theatres and clubs all over the world from realizing my Broadway dream thanks to “Metropolita(-i)n” to Beirut theatre by way of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Just back from a 3-month Jazz residency in Tokyo, I am delighted to have the opportunity to renew with these 3 gentlemen and share with you, in the Dublin that adopted me, the fruits of our playful musical collaboration.

My Motto: “Dare to love and step in: Passion is made to be shared!”

TOM MAXWELL is a pianist, organist and music director. Having been introduced to many contrasting styles of music from a young age, he is a versatile young musician and plays regularly in different music scenes across the city. He has featured in groups such as the Gustavo de Morais Quartet, the Kasia Eliasz Quintet/9-piece band, and runs two trios on organ and piano. Maxwell’s influences come from as wide a range of music as he is familiar with, from musical theatre works by Richard Rogers and Leonard Bernstein, to choral music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and CV Stanford, to jazz, where his favourite players include Oscar Peterson and Joey DeFrancesco.

My take on Tom

“Eclectic and open!! With a spirited touch nourished by the versatility of his musical curiosity, he’s got the keys to chordal horizons that makes you dare to go beyond, giving wings to the most inspiring moments!”

CORMAC O’BRIEN is one of Dublin’s most prominent double bass players and he has performed and recorded with many of Ireland’s finest musicians, such as Louis Stewart, Tommy Halferty, Michael Buckley, Hugh Buckley, The Kai Big Band, The Zoid Ensemble, Lunfardia, Yurodny and Jack L. He has also played with a range of international artists such as Bobby Watson, Pete Churchill, Ernie Watts, Marshall Gilkes, Rick Margitza, Ryan Quigley, John Riley, Bruce Adams and many more. He has held the bass chair in the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra since its inception and is a member of the Hibernian Orchestra. Cormac also co-founded the group Rhythm Method, for whom he also composes. Other current projects he is involved include Mary Coughlan band, Phisqa, Inni-K and Riona Hartman band. In 2012 Cormac set up the Jazz Central, a short lived but successful jazz venue, and has been involved with other collectives such as Rutland place and Donkey Jaw Productions.

My take on Cormac:
“Precise, rough or tender, but with rhythm always at the center of his virtuosic melodic escapades, he sets the mood and offers the sinuous foundation that brings the best in others.”

MILES RONAYNE is an emerging Irish drummer & composer on the improvised music scene. He has recently completed his final year studying BA Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance in DCU, achieving 1st Class Honors and has performed extensively as part of many ensembles. With a style deeply rooted in Neo-Soul music, he fuses this influence with the complexity of contemporary jazz. His compositions transport the listener into a world of flowing melodies, on the spot improvisation and rich harmonic soundscapes. From playing with esteemed international artists such as Daniel Rorke, Michael Buckley, Linley Hamilton, Cormac O’Brien, Johnny Taylor, Barry Donohue, Greg Felton, Peter Hanagan and Stephen McFarlane to playing at the 20th Bydgoszcz Jazz Festival in Poland in 2022, it’s safe to say, there’s plenty more where that came from!

My take on Miles
“As he is fluent in French, Corneille”s “Aux âmes bien nées, la valeur n’attend point le nombre des années” comes to mind: “The value of noble souls is not a matter of age.” With a ferocious appetite for excellence, he is a young at heart old soul and generous instrumentist, serving his partners with the subtle and deep versatility of his timing. Remember his name!”
