Regional Massapê is a Brazilian Traditional Choro band that plays the classics of Brazilian instrumental music.
Choro is a unique style that is derived from European classical music and African rhythm, and is somewhat similar to jazz. It can be classified as a middle term between popular and erudite music.
Developed in Brazil during the end of the 19th century, It can be played in an enormous variety of rhythms and instruments, maintaining the key characteristic of being a complex, rich and distinctive instrumental style. The greatest composers are “Jacob do Bandolim”, “Pixinguinha”, “Ernesto Nazareth” and “Waldir Azevedo”.

Lineup:

Mayara Mitsuka is a cavaquinist and singer, who graduated in architecture and urban planning, a carnival lover, born in Brasília and raised in Sobradinho. At the age of 13, she became interested in her sister’s acoustic guitar and learned to play from music magazines.
At the end of her degree in architecture, she designed the revitalisation of “Escola de Música de Brasília” and MPB museum as her final project. In this process, she started listening and reading about Brazilian music and fell in love with samba, specifically Cartola.
In mid-2015 she entered the Escola de Choro Raphael Rabello, took classes with Márcio Marinho, Priscila Peixoto and Bruna Takeuti, and attended “rodas de choro” in Brasília such as Choro Raiz, Choro Fingido, Choro Delas and Choruminho. In 2018 she studied samba with Nelsinho Serra and in the same year, she entered the choro group “Trio pela Culatra”, which she was part of until 2019.
After experiencing personal problems during the pandemic, she stopped playing and singing. But after coming and going from Ireland, she met the band and was invited to join us!

William Silva is a percussionist and Dancer born in Araçatuba countryside of São Paulo.

Despite having had contact with music and dance in childhood, it was in 2016, already in São Paulo city and under the influence of friends from University, that he fell in love with the Choro style, and began his musical studies by going to renowned schools such as Emesp Tom Jobim, the Musical Conservatory of Tatuí and the Choro School of São.
A regular figure in the Choro sessions promoted by the “Xoroxango” collective, he met other musicians and was invited to join his first Choro group, “Regional do Seu Fagundes”, where he consolidated his musical base and improved his technique on the leather Tambourine.

After having his activities interrupted due to the covid 19 pandemic, he decided to do a student exchange in Dublin and has been maintaining his musical studies and creating connections with musicians residing in Ireland.

Bruno Carvalho is a guitar player and sculpture instructor from São Luís capital of Maranhão in northeastern Brazil.
Residing in Dublin since 2015, he has always been influenced by Brazilian music, highlighting Northeastern Regional Music.

His interest in music started early when he started playing percussion and after that started playing the 6-string guitar and got involved in projects with Latin music. In Dublin, he met musicians from several countries and different musical genres and joined “Projeto Locanda”, a group that brings the Latin Gypsy jazz style.

He consolidated his style and became a representative of Brazilian music with the swing of the seven-string guitar and has been part of our team since the beginning, spreading the sound of this unique instrument derived from the Russian guitars!

Andryas Mariotto is an Electronic Technician, Programmer, and Multi-instrumentalist born in Tremembé, the countryside of São Paulo, he grew up listening to “Metal”, “Moda De Viola Caipira” and “Classical Music”, influenced by his father he started playing the drums at 4 years old.
A big fan of technical music and complex solos, he was missing the culture in which he was grown and that brought him to the Choro style, choosing the mandolin for being the most similar to an electric guitar.
