Fiadh Rua Gregg is a vocalist, songwriter and voice teacher working throughout Ireland and the UK. Since achieving an honours BA in Jazz Performance from Newpark Music Centre, Fiadh has played in numerous ensembles and bands such as Claritas (An improvising vocal trio) with her quartet at the Dublin Jazz Co-Op, and most recently, at The Jazz Bar, Edinburgh. Fiadh works as vocalist and composer (along with Jamel Franklin and Keith Tobin) for the band Shy Mascot, with whom she has played at various festivals and venues such as Bray Jazz Festival, The Workman’s Club, and Forbidden Fruit Festival.
Joining Fiadh on stage are some of the most sought after musicians on the scene, Éanna Ryder (piano), Keith Tobin (bass) and Andrew O’Farrell (drums), who provide an energetic freshness with a tasteful edge. Having studied together and currently all playing in Shy Mascot, there is a familiarity between the quartet that makes for connected grooves and free-flowing improvisation. Drawing from some of the great composers of the 21st Century, such as Rodgers & Hart and Thelonious Monk, this intimate gig has all the ingredients for a musically spontaneous summertime evening. Expect to hear a carefully selected repertoire of jazz standards made famous by the likes of Nina Simone and Chet Baker, along with some unexpected worthy additions borrowed from other genres. The band are delighted to be able to bring you an evening of familiar favourites filled with swing, soul and sincerity.
