Almonte/Whyte/McCarthy is a new project from three active contributors to Dublin’s creative music scene. The project aims to find new ways of expanding form and interaction in an improvised setting using rhythm as the focus point.
The group features Rodrigo Almonte on guitar, Derek Whyte on bass and Michael McCarthy, who have featured in outfits such as the Peruvian Jazz Project, Redivider and the Andrea Jones Quartet as well as leading their own groups. However this project brings elements of all three musicians’ recent research and practice in the field of rhythm to bear in the form of new compositions as well as elaborations on tunes from the existing jazz canon.
