Casa Forte explores the Brazilian popular music songbook with new arrangements and some unusual selections. This new group featuring Portuguese singer Filipa Quintino and Irish guitarist John Moriarty where they invite you to sit back and travel feeling the energetic but warm embrace of Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque, Pixinguinha, António Carlos Jobim and Egberto Gismonti music. They are joined this evening by two of Irelands highest regarded jazz players, Darragh O’Kelly on keys and Shane O’Donovan on drums.

Filipa Quintino is a Portuguese jazz singer and composer based in Ireland for the past 10 years. In 2021, she released an EP online with Wire me project Live at Temple Lane, recorded with guitarist Chris Cole. In 2016 Filipa released her debut album Filipa Quintino With the flow which she got to perform in Ireland JJ Smyths and Arthurs, and in Portugal in Fábrica Braço de Prata with musicians such as Phil Ware and Tommy Moore.

Recently, new projects have been submerging from music that has always fascinated Filipa. Besides singing in the project Swing’in Nova, she is now presenting Casa Forte.

John Moriarty is one of Ireland’s foremost jazz guitarists. In recent times, John has toured / recorded with US pianist Bill Carrothers, Bobby Watson of ‘Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers’ and sax legend Ronnie Cuber; and was a prize-winner at Montreux Jazz Festival’s Guitar competition.

He plays regularly with the Richie Buckley Quintet as well as his own quartet and trio projects.
