Leevy is a five piece band from the Múscraí Gaeltacht in West Cork. The band is led by singer songwriter Amhlaoibh McSweeney
Leevy’s latest release, Very Sad Lives is a six track EP that builds on the previous releases of the group, showcasing a strong storytelling capability in the lyrics (in keeping with the Irish tradition) supported by a catchy and complex set of melodies and compositions that celebrate the band’s roots in traditional music (The Pogues), punk (Pixies) and country (Creedence Clearwater Revival).
Very Sad Lives grapples with the contemporary world of the group; the EP navigates the anxieties of coming to terms with the person you’re becoming and explores the insecurities of being from a traditional Irish community in the context of global existentialism through sounds and songs that strive to suggest that everything is going to be alright.
The EP will be launched in Levis’ Cornerhouse, Ballydehob 20/08/2023 and will be available on all streaming platforms from the 23/08/2023.
