Kapayja are set to launch their debut EP Age of the Open Book with a headline show at Whelan’s upstairs on Tuesday, April 22nd.

Kapayja are an independant Alternative Rock band from North-Dublin. They spent the summer of 2024 carefully curating this project and now, with unwavering confidence in each track, the band are set to release Age of the Open Book to the world.

Age of the Open Book, is the bands first studio project. Each song on the EP is a chapter of the bands journey since their innoscent beginnings in 2023.

This Extended Project uncovered itself through the birth of each track’s creation. Without initial intention to place these songs on the same project together, each one was developed by the band over the course of a year. As Kapayja took the lyrics and melody on and contributed their own personality to the tracks, they noticed an undeniable correlation between the songs whether it be the subject matter, instrumentation or ambiance. These songs have been hand-picked and carefully manipulated to fulfil Age of the Open Book.

Frontman and Songwriter of the group Joshua Neary comments on the creation of the EP “it is a product of lived experiences, observations and anything that’s made me who I am over the integral years growing up. Realising we live amongst very talented and interesting people that may go through life unnoticed.”

“Finding beauty in the mundane and in innoscent moments has been a huge part of the writing process. Just when I think I’m in a dry spell, I see a seagull get its eyes pecked out, and I’m right back on the ball.”

He also mentions “I have watched myself and the band grow as individuals through the creation of this project. This is just an introduction to the possibilities of Kapayja.”

The EP rollout has been a resounding success. On January 7th, the band released their first single, Livin’, which quickly gained traction, drawing listeners to their fresh sound and energy. The track was selected as RTE 2FM’s Grassroots Pick, receiving multiple plays on the station. It also secured airtime on Dublin City FM’s 103.2 show Tilt with John Barker, while attracting attention from Genuine Irish.

Kapayja’s latest release, Two for Joy, marks their second single of 2025 and has already been featured on playlists by GoldenPlec, IMRO, and First Music Contact, while also receiving airtime on Galway’s Flirt FM. These first two singles have laid a strong foundation for the year, building anticipation for the final single of their EP rollout, Crack a Smile, set for release on April 3rd. This track is expected to generate even more buzz for the band ahead of their highly anticipated EP.

Kapayja will celebrate the release of this defining collection with a headline gig at Whelan’s on April 22nd, 2025—a milestone moment for the band as they continue to carve out their place in the alternative rock scene.
