Part of the Dublin music scene for years, Danny Carroll is co-curator of A Litany Of Failures compilation series showcasing independent artists from across Ireland. Having gigged in various projects, he’s opened for kindred spirits such as Jeffrey Lewis and Pavement guitarist Spiral Stairs, before the time came to work on his debut solo album. Enlisting the help of Belfast based producer Chris W. Ryan (New Dad, Just Mustard, Robocobra Quartet), in January 2023, he released his debut solo single ‘Affection’. Hailed as “a compelling re-introduction” (The Last Mixed Tape) and an “idiosyncratic first outing” (Headstuff) the track went on to receive coverage on RTÉ Radio 1, The Irish Times and HotPress among others.
New single ‘Cheesemonger’ sees Carroll wrestling with self-deprecation and sincerity. A love song of sorts, the track sits somewhere between the knowing croon of The Divine Comedy and Father John Misty, before fully committing to unapologetic bombast. The track is accompanied by a striking, macabre video made by Iarla McKeon (KhakiKid, Big Sleep), and is one of 22 tracks to feature on the upcoming A Litany Of Failures: Volume IV. To celebrate the release, Danny is embarking on an Irish tour, with like-minded Litany counterpart, Laurie Shaw.
Laurie Shaw is a Wirral-born songwriter and producer. He now dwells in Ireland where he records from his mountain retreat. He often gigs in Cork, Dublin and the Merseyside area. He has released around 100 albums to date (all of which are available on request) from his bandcamp page. “Conjuring everyone from Pulp, Edgar Jones, Jonathan Richman, Ty Segall and Arctic Monkeys, this is a strong introduction to a fast-rising wunderkind that, if there’s any justice in the world, will get his break…” – Brian Coney, The Thin Air, Weird Weekends Review
