THE FLEMING/FARRELLY QUARTET
Little Whelan’s • Tue 6th June 2023
The Fleming/Farrelly Quartet is a chordless jazz quartet formed in 2022 as part of the Dublin Jazz Co-op’s ‘Kind of New’ series. Its repertoire draws largely from the hard bop of the 50s and 60s, featuring compositions and arrangements from this era’s most well-known bandleaders, including Joe Henderson, Sonny Rollins and Clifford Brown. It also includes many of the Broadway standards that achieved new popularity in this era.
Saxophonist Rory Fleming and trombonist Martin Farrelly are students from DCU’s Jazz and Contemporary Music program while bassist Diarmuid Lally and drummer Hugh Denman are both seasoned musicians, each with years of experience of professional playing. The members have, as individuals, played in venues and festivals across Ireland, the UK, Europe and America.
