LAST APOLLO
plus support
Whelan’s Upstairs • Thur 14th Sept 2023
Tipped by the Irish Times as ‘one to watch’ for 2023, genre-bending Dublin artist Lucy Rice began Last Apollo in the depths of lockdown and has gone from an aspiring artist to an established one. With her debut indie-rock EP (streamed over 65,000 times) earning acclaim from sources such as Hotpress, Nialler 9 and The Irish Times, Last Apollo has gained momentum across streaming services but it is ultimately her energetic live shows that separate her from other artists. Her live performances include: We’ve Only Just Begun, Primavera Pro, CCI Paris, Whelan’s Ones to Watch, TILT, Trinity Ball, two sold out Dublin headline shows and support for Sprints and Sammy Copley.
After spending a summer writing and writing (and asking a thousand customers if they would like chocolate on their cappuccinos) – she returns to Whelans Upstairs to showcase a set filled with brand new material in a night that is sure to be filled with raw energy, sweat and a series of powerful new songs. These new songs indicate a clear step away from her earlier indie-pop hits as Rice continues to carve out and explore a unique style of songwriting darker and more emotive than ever before. Another emerging artist backed by a tight live band, the support act, Calum Agnew is guaranteed to set the tone for a night filled with high quality, high energy music.
