GWENIFER RAYMOND
plus support
Wed 8th Sept 2021
Whelan’s main venue
“Western music was influenced by traditional folk from England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland; Raymond’s seamless crossover grows from these historically intersecting roots” – Stereogum
⭐⭐⭐⭐ + ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The Guardian
“meeting and beating male contemporaries note for note” – Pop Matters
“in service to a respectful experimental drive that won’t let her take the easy road” – Uncut
Gwenifer Raymond is a solo instrumental guitar player with a style resonant and inspired in part by that of such luminaries as John Fahey et al, striking an alluring figure with a PHD in astro-physics and a day job as a computer games programmer playing a fast style of bare foot Old West American fingerstlye that landed her in first place among new music press, both digital and online, globally upon the release of her debut “You Never Were Much Of A Dancer” on Josh Rosenthal’s Tompkins Square label. Late 2020 expects a post-corvid19 follow up!
Phantom Limb Touring receives more ‘cold calls’ about Gwen than any other artist! She has slowly made her way around the UK, some of mainland Europe and the USA. She continues to gain followers everywhere she goes, mainly due to broad fan bases from experimental, acoustic guitar, folk and rock worlds. She also plays in a doom band.
In late 2020 she has been invited to take part in a collaborative residency with O Gajo in Portugal, with a series of dates across the region.
