Introducing Anenome, Dublin based four piece expanding the boundaries of folk/rock music. Front women Clara Webster and Lily Brodie Hayes use rich string arrangements and layered vocals to evoke powerful emotions in their music, connecting people to each other on the basis of an honest shared human experience. Drawing from influences such as PJ Harvey, Lankum, Nick Cave, Katie Kim and Keeley Forsyth, they reach beyond what we have already heard and make something new.
‘Dregs’ is the first single to be released from their debut EP, Human Remains, and will be released on the 8th of December. Anenome proudly engineer their music in-house, mixed by the great Cian Nolan (Lifts) and engineered by Harvey Birrell. ‘Dregs’ is the smallest arrangement we see on Human Remains, creating a comforting atmosphere with acoustic guitar, violin, harmonium and vocals. Conflicting with this simple, dry soundscape we hear unsettling lyrics which describe a desire to dissect the physical body in order to find the answer to emotional unrest.
Anenome will see a second single release ‘Fascinate Me’ in early 2024 with the full EP scheduled for release in Spring ‘24. They will also reveal self-made music videos for the two singles shortly after their releases. These songs describe a process of transformation and growth, struggling with mental health difficulties and seeking out the pathways to self-improvement. Throughout Human Remains, Anenome express a refusal to accept the discrimination and mistreatment experienced by women everywhere and describe the pain this discrimination causes.
