The Would Be’s Bittersweet EP (Featuring previously unreleased Peel Session) – Released March 27th (digital), April 18th (12” vinyl release on Record Store Day)
It was back in the 90s: after being championed by John Peel, touring with Morrissey, making NME‘s and Melody Maker’s single of the week on several occasions and finally having to choose a signing with one of fourteen record labels, The Would Be’s rising star suddenly imploded. With a triumphant comeback after two decades away from the music scene, The Would Be’s returned to the studio in 2013 and released what was incredibly their first album, ‘Beautiful Mess’. The release saw the band enjoy some long-overdue critical acclaim and their return to the live scene included a slot at Electric Picnic and sharing stages with new and older forces in Irish music such as The Strypes and fellow FIFA Records outfit The Frank & Walters.
Unafraid to challenge indie norms with a prominent brass appeal, The Would Be’s female lead vocal recalls Harriet Wheeler at the height of her powers with The Sundays, along with Johnny Marr-inspired riffs and hooks, combined with their distinct brass leanings, The Would Be’s know where the benchmark is set when it comes to delicate, intricate and on-the-button indie pop. The sound of The Would Be’s drifts between bright to brooding, sultry to uplifting, with a hint of fragility; adding to the layers and depth that is The Would Be’s sound of 2015.
The Would Be’s have re-acquainted themselves with loyal fans and connected with a new generation of listeners as they continue now where once they left off – 2015 will see the band continue to record and play live and maintain a rightful place at the top table of Irish indie.
