THE SYDNEY GARRISON
The Sydney Garrison are an Irish duo comprising two former members of Dublin based rock band Jalopy. Cian from Kildare and Emmet from Dublin formed the band in 2012 and started writing tunes together immediately . Their influences span a wide range of artists like Nick Cave, Elbow and The Super Furry Animals and these forces imprint and stir their music. Beginning in late 2013, the boys ensconced themselves down in ArtHouse Studios in Nass and set about recording their debut album which comprises a collection of their most recent songs.
Cian and Emmet first met while in art college in Limerick city where they both played in the group Gollum. After college they formed the Dublin based rock outfit Jalopy, a group that became well known in Dublin music circles for their regular pulsating live shows in venues throughout the city. Alas, Jalopy went their separate ways and both Cian and Emmet found themselves traveling the globe in different directions.
In 2012 our adventurers found themselves back on the old sod and more ready than ever to forge some melodic artistry out of their shared and individual experiences. On separate occasions, during their travels, in the jungles of Chiapas, Mexico, both had chance and profound encounters with the mysterious story of Sir Thomas Sydney and his debauched Garrison. So when the songs began to flow and a new project initiated, The Sydney Garrison was born.
Now in the summer of 2015, The Sydney Garrison have released their debut single aptly named Why Wait? (May 31st) ahead of launching their debut album Love Is Not Enough on July 12th. The album houses a collection of songs that sometimes rock your feet , sometimes sway your heart but always furrow a way to your soul.
