Mark Corcoran is a songwriter/singer based in Dundalk. He’s released two albums on his own ‘Country Gent’ label. ‘If I Speak False’ was produced by Matt Crosbie who’s worked with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Cat Power, Dirty Three. The second one is called ‘Moonlight is X-raying the Earth’ and was produced by Conway Savage, who is best known as the keyboard player with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He is a great artist in his own right and Mark has released Conway’s back catalogue in Ireland and done many tours with him.
Work has begun on a new one, as always with a country feel.
The great Robert Wyatt said this about his last album which features a cover of his classic ‘Sea Song’ :
‘Mark, you’ve got a great voice. Yr record’s so strong altogether, thanks for inviting me as guest composer, the honour is mine’
“(Moonlight) is a battered but beloved suitcase of songs. Suffused with an old school Bogartian a-cynic-is-just-a-disappointed-romantic sensibility for sure, but mordantly witty with it. This stuff’s fine as old wine.” 4/5 Peter Murphy, Hot Press
