SEAN NICHOLAS SAVAGE
– Main Venue –
Bermuda Waterfall is the new album from Canadian singer-songwriter and ballad composer Sean Nicholas Savage and will be released May 13th on Montreal label Arbutus Records (TOPS, Doldrums, Blue Hawaii).
“The utter rawness and sincerity of his performance is absolutely captivating.”
“Sean Nicholas Savage, a singer-songwriter, madcap philosopher, and all-around scene-pillar in the particular freak-flag-flying sector of the Canadian music community”
“Montreal’s best kept secret (…) sparkles like Elliot Smith hopped up on Arthur Russell’s happy pills.”
Savage’s gift for bracing, timeless song craft and prowess as a philosopher reaches a new zenith with Bermuda Waterfall, which presents 12 tightly written pop songs packed with rich musical depths and devastating emotional gravity.
The album offers listeners the opportunity to observe the fascinating evolution of a truly one-of-a-kind artist and confident expansion of his artistic palette. ‘Darkness’ and ‘The Rat’ see cinematic piano imbued with chilling honesty. ‘Heartless’ and ‘Hands Dance’ are carried by Spanish guitars and wouldn’t feel out of place in an out of place John Hughes film, albeit a decidedly unusual one. Elsewhere, ‘Empire’ and ‘Some Things Never Die’ see Savage’s lush signature harmonies hover longingly over new romanticist soul.
Sean Nicholas Savage is a Canadian Singer and Ballad Composer.
In 2013 he released the record Other Life, his most emotionally thematic work and first in a year since he prolifically delivered three full length cassette albums; Flamingo, Won Ton Jaz and Trippple Midnight Karma in 2011. Savage touches always on a theory or profound observation and comes to at least a suggested point in his pop, drama compositions. Perhaps the pinnacle attraction of his work are these observations, learned wisdoms, the ongoing adventures shaping Savage himself, the Artist, the Performer, the Narrator.
A pop ‘character’, but with severe realness comparable to Punk/Pop greats, such as Sinead O’Connor, Boy George or fellow Canadian poetics Majical Cloudz and Mac DeMarco. However, with the way music is consumed today, comparisons of contemporaries fail to do any contemporary justice. A broad range of genres and movements; Jazz, Punk, Country and Bossa that must all leave a stain on an artist that is himself an art admirer.
Once a staple spectacle performance in Montreal’s all night illegal party scene, Savage has since taken to consistent touring and producing wherever he may be, in the past two years. Throughout Europe and North America, his dates vary from subdued solo performances to full band power ballad shows, each incarnation renowned as captivating and inspirational. In the spring of 2014 he is set to release Bermuda Waterfall, the much anticipated masterpiece follow up to his opus; Other Life.
