MAURICE BYRNE & ENDA REILLY

By the time she was 16, she had started playing in local Pop/Rockbands and after trying out many different styles and bands, she finally returned to her Celtic roots and put her musical heart back into her beloved acoustic folk music. She said, “it felt like coming home, when I visited Ireland for the first time about 5 years ago. Everything here inspires me and this is the kind of music I really want to do. It fulfills me and just makes me happy!“

After years of playing in bands, Sareena re-discovered herself as a solo artist when she travelled extensively through Scotland, England, Ireland, Poland, Spain and Cuba (where she played with the world famous band “Sierra Maestra“) two years ago, busking and playing in a lot of small venues. She realised that people loved listening to her singing, playing a guitar or the piano.

The successful Irish solo-tour in 2011 brought her to many well know Irish venues like the Spirit Store in Dundalk, where she headlined the local radio station’s Summerfest, she has played in Boyles of Slane, Monroes in Galway and last but not least that acoustic stage at Ireland’s Oxygen Festival. “I never expected something like this would happen, but people just seem to love my music in this country!“

Swiss audiences were enchanted by the new sounds in her CD “Overwater“ after she  introduced that Irish spirit into her music and recorded her album using traditional Irish instruments such as the fiddle, the low whistle and Uilleann Pipes. She is barely able to keep pace with the many new fans for her music back in her native Switzerland after several newspapers, radio and  TV stations in Eastern Switzerland wrote glowing reviews of her new CD. In one TV interview she said “I never had any doubt, where I should record my first album: Ireland was the perfect place for me and I feel very lucky and privileged that I was being able to do this at Windmill Lane Studios.“

Her other passion is skiing and although she rarely talks about it publicly, she is an experienced and accomplished skier with a ski instructors licence. So if you are on the slopes or off piste with Sareena, you are definitely in safe hands! “Whenever I have a day off, I head to the Alps, that’s where I love to recharge my batteries! “

At the moment many things are changing for the young singer from Basel. She just quit her job as a teacher to concentrate on her upcoming European tour and is now making bookings for both the East and West Coast in her USA tour later this year. The next stop is her album release tour in Ireland in late March / early April 2013 where she is scheduled to play in Dublin, Dundalk and Galway as well as scheduled radio interviews in Dublin, Dundalk and Belfast.

Sareena has been writing folk and pop songs for half a lifetime and her musical road is stretching out before her!
