Whelan’s Ones to Watch presents
_ Main Venue _
Whelan’s Ones to Watch are excited to bring you three more up and coming, unsigned, Irish artists that we think deserve your attention. Ruth was one of our highlights from the Ones to Watch Festival in January, so what better way to reward such brilliant emerging talent than to give her a shot at the main stage.
Ruth is a Dublin based musician & artist, originally from Co. Kerry, Ireland. Having brought a classic sound with a modern twist to the Irish music scene, she is very quickly coming to prominence within the music industry. Armed with songs that have been said to posess “early 1990s vibes, with a modernly bewitching touch”, she has already performed on many of Ireland’s most prestigious stages including those in Whelan’s (Ones To Watch 2016), The Workman’s Club (We-Bloom), and The Button Factory to name a few.
Musical influences originated at home, with Leonard Cohen serenading her during car journeys, and Elvis singing from the kitchen at night time. Having started her training as a classical musician at the age of eight, Ruth began composing her own songs on the piano when she was twelve, and has been honing her craft ever since. With conflicting interests in Hollywood film, classical and electronic music, she translates an eclectic mix of influences into one modern, cohesive sound. This has merited her an ever growing fanbase, as well as a high level of respect from her contemporaries. A natural performer, she boasts an energetic and enchanting set.
Fresh off the stage at the annual Whelans Ones To Watch 2016 showcase, Ruth’s debut single “Who Are You Living For?” – recorded by Mick Heffernan (The Script, Swedish House Mafia) – was released in January 2016, and will be accompanied by a music video in early spring. She is sure to be one to watch in the this year – but don’t take my word for it, come to her next show and see for yourself!
