RON POPE

Wakey! Wakey!

plus guest

Alexz Johnson

Brooklyn, NY based artist, Ron Pope is much more than the labels and stereotypes he’s acquired during his budding career. Pope is a musical Renaissance Man, writing, composing, recording, producing, managing, and igniting his own career.

He’s stood at a crossroads where so many musicians find themselves — at the intersection of record label and independence. In an ever-evolving industry filled with rejection and compromise, Pope has plotted a new course for his music to reach loyal listeners, taking the industry-road-less-traveled in exchange for the ultimate payback, a league of devoted fans the world over. With his latest album ”Calling Off The Dogs” which is out now, he is exploring new territory and pushing boundaries even further.

The first single, Lick My Wounds (available worldwide now), is the first taste of this new exploration.

New York City’s Michael Grubbs aka Wakey! Wakey! joins heartfelt lyrics and emotive vocals to create artful, explosive pop music. It’s something Grubbs learned from playing keys in New York’s anti-folk scene on the Lower East Side – not far from where the creator of One Tree Hill loved a Wakey!Wakey! set so much he tapped their sun-stroked track “War Sweater” for season 6’s finale and recruited Grubbs for a recurring role. That’d be the tale of a bartender/musician named, err, Grubbs-a strangely familiar life story hinted at in such standout Wakey!Wakey! songs as “Almost Everything,” “Twenty-Two,” and “Light Outside.” Since their breakthrough, W!W!’s music has been heard all around the world in film, television and advertising campaigns as well as in their acclaimed live shows. Hard at work in the studio for the past year, the band will release their highly anticipated new album in early 2014.

Alexz Johnson is a Canadian singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, NY. Born the middle child of nine siblings, Alexz began writing songs at the age of 12. After writing for and portraying musicians in multiple films & TV shows, Alexz began to experiment with her own unique pop/soul sound. This attracted the attention of major labels, signing first to Capitol in 2005 and Epic Sony in 2008 (completing an album with producer Greg Wells). Due to internal changes, Alexz’ music never got it’s proper release.

Alexz has continued to build a strong following in an independent market in the absence of traditional support. Through the Kickstarter platform, her self released “Skipping Stone EP” enabled her to raise over $30,000 within the first 24 hours of her campaign, $67,000 overall allowing her to tour with her band.
