Upstairs in Whelans we will be treated by two fantastic rising acts in the Irish Music Industry.

The Optimists are a newly formed band from Dublin consisting of musicians from the well-established BIMM Institute. This will be the bands first gig and we’re very much looking forward to seeing what they’ve been working on over the last while!

John Gaughan- “A little man, with a little guitar, trying to make it big”

A Galway musician, John Gaughan was a semi finalist of acclaimed music talent T.V show, “The Voice Of Ireland”. He has gained popularity from his television debut, sparking interest from celebrities such as Bressie and Sharon Corr touring with Sharon across the UK and Ireland.

He released his debut EP which reached number 8 in the Irish charts and was then invited to co-write and perform with Royseven lead singer Paul Walsh and friend Keenan Copas on Bressie’s “Cycle Against Suicide” Album which reached number one. Now with his new band of college mates, John is ready to make waves with his new sound. We’re really looking forward to hearing John’s music with his recently formed back line!

Also upstairs we’ll have our resident DJ on before and after the band, playing the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, The Naked and Famous, Gorillaz, etc

We’ll also be taking over the front bar in Whelan’s where our DJs will be playing everything from classic pop to old school jams. Expect all your favourites from 80s, 90s and 00s! Think the best house party playlist you can imagine and that’s the vibe!
