Following the release of his critically acclaimed second solo album, ‘Crooked Highway’ Pete Cummins brings his band of top musicians to Whelans on Dec 30th.
In 2008 he surprised many people with the release of his first solo album The Brilliant Architect, displaying his considerable song writing talents on hard hitting songs like Flowers in Baghdad, which stayed for two years on the Neil Young, Living with War
Website chart.
Pete made his first record at Decca Studios in London in 1968 with Irish band Granny’s Intentions, one of the early pioneers from Ireland into the UK in the sixties, along with Van Morrison and Rory Gallagher.
In the eighties he led The Fleadh Cowboys to become one of the most loved and successful bands of that time, they recorded two albums. During the nineties he took almost ten years out of the music business making only sporadic returns to record with artists Towns Van Zandt and on a Grammy award winning album with Nanci Griffith.
Crooked Highway is an RTE album of the week and has had excellent reviews,
“Sacred Ground, his tribute to journalist Eugene Moloney, senselessly killed on his way home, and The Harder the Rain, his thoughts on the financial crisis, are heartfelt and strongly expressed”………………..Irish Times.
