“A kinetically feel-good performance” – LA TIMES
Their debut album Ozomatli was released on June 16, 1998 on Almo Sounds. The album reached mainstream success following an appearance on the late night talk show “Vibe!” Featuring MC Chali 2na, turntablist Cut Chemist, drummer William Marrufo, and saxophone player Jose Espinoza. The album reached No. 7 on the Billboard Latin Albums chart (71 weeks) and No. 4 on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart (50 weeks). Two singles released from the album were “Cut Chemist Suite”, featured on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, and “Super Bowl Sundae”. Ozomatli also made an appearance on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, peaking at number 25.
Ozomatli’s latest recording is an album of classic and contemporary Mexican hits reimagined with a Jamaican feel. Titled Nonstop: Mexico → Jamaica, it pays homage to the music that many of the band members grew up listening to, inspiring them to reconnect and reinterpret songs that defined their youth. Produced by drum & bass reggae legends, Sly & Robbie (Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Madonna, No Doubt) and featuring various high profile guest vocalists, the album reflects the bands multi-genre influences as well as their travels around the world.

“Something magical happened at the Button Factory last Friday night. When fans of Booka Brass Band assembled in the venue for their late-night show, they had no idea that they were there to bear witness to a gig more awe-inspiring than Dublin had seen in months. Even though many had seen them play live before, nothing could have prepared us for the sheer brilliance of Friday’s set.” – InDublin.ie
‘Booka Brass Band have every right to be claimed as Ireland’s best live act right now’, – Golden Plec
‘If you can only take in one new act this festival season, make it Booka Brass Band’ – The Irish Independent
